Husbands and laundry...beware -trivia.

I had a 'tissue issue' today. A pair of denim crops and a pair of grey trousers were covered in shreds of tissue. I shook them out at the back door and subsequently had to vacuum the doorsteps. And I don't even have an OH to blame.

My DH has a bright yellow sports shirt which he always puts in with the dark washing, despite my efforts to train him. Why?

My DH doesn't do washing either when he returns from visit to my MIl he just tells me 'I've left mothers laundry on Top washing machine''. Last week two year old DGS had 'popped in one of his croc sandals in to tumble dryer. When DD removed the dry washing , out popped a tiny croc that would fit his baby brother . I'm all guilty of tissues. If you've got tumble dryer a quick whizz round usually does the trick. Not long ago just before DH was going away for a few days I quickly picked up pair jeans off the bedroom Floor (not hung up grrr) + chucked them in the wash in case needed them. When took them out spotted bulging back pocket HIS WALLET! Spent afternoon drying notes as had been ATM for cash for trip. Needless to say I wasn't the Flavour of the month!

Put those doilies out of their misery. It's not right. How would you like to spend your life buried at the bottom of a drawer.

And I have inherited dozens too, please accept them with my compliments. I also have white cotton tablecloths which have been beautifully embroidered by both my Nan and Mil. They stay in a drawer as they terrify me!

Petra I can send you a bag of doilies (how does one spell that word that isn't knitted?). My late mother had them under every numerous ornament on every available surface and I inherited them. Free to a good home

I have never been allowed to forget the time I put my husband's white football shorts in with something red. They were a delightful pink shade, which he flatly refused to wear can't think why. That was a long while ago of course, football playing days over, but I can still see the look on his face when I told him they were o.k.

Ana. It's ok, I knew it was. I was going to mention my doilies but I thought that was a step too far. Ha ha.

I hope the next generation of males are house-trained. I know that my sons' partners wouldn't let them get away with not pulling their weight around the house. Both are very good at ironing.

My DH has been known to find the ironing and wash AND tumble dry it!

Ana, why would I need them. As I said, both settees are loose covers. I wouldn't have any other.

Glad that somebody else has discovered the dry cleaning lie! actually, I Will try the tumble drying next time, as the long living room curtains could do with an inch off.I am now looking around for more things to wash, what did I do with that old mink coat?

Oh, I forgot the cushion covers, I have a lot of those.

I did the same with my (very long) living room curtains a few months ago, roses, except that I put them one by one in the tumble dryer for a short time then hung them.

I think they did shrink about half an inch, but it wasn't noticeable as they were too long anyway!

I do all the laundry ( and like it that way) but now there is a mention of curtains, which prompts me to tell you, that recently I have washed all the curtains in the house, they all have labels that scream DRY CLEAN ONLY,
But having found out the price of dry cleaning them all, I thought I would give it a go, otherwise I may as well buy all new curtains! So, with some trepidation, I washed one curtain at a time on a 30 degree wash, on the programme that only takes half an hour. they came out perfectly, and just damp and ready to hang, no need to iron ( I whisked them out of the washer
The moment the machine stopped.What a result.So, I then washed a furry throw, and a load of cushion covers, all previously dry cleaned, with the same great results.No more dry cleaning bills.

Your bedding is at least one wash. Then there's your clothes and underwear, towels, curtains.
I have two four seater settees with loose covers and they are washed regularly. And as for mixing whites with anything, no no no.

One reason why DH doesn't do washing is that, although he bought the machine while I was safely away having DD2 (having always said that I didn't need an automatic as the twin tub was fine) and did a good few loads of nappies and clothes for us all, there came a day when I found him about to put on a load containing jumpers at 90º! I suspected that he did it on purpose having though that I was back on the strength, and to be fair, he had a ridiculously demanding job to go to. However, I banned him for many years after that.
