I haven't seen the television series but have read and enjoyed the books. I have never met a Phryne but have encountered some people with unusual names, including an Aphrodite who, sadly, was one of the plainest girls I have ever seen.

I've known a Perdita and a Buttercup along with a sprinkling of 70's Saffrons.

Today I read a poster stating that a fete was being held in the grounds of Miss 'Garminda *****'. A beautiful big stately home - she must have had parents with a very poor taste in names!

Garminda?? Ye gods.....what possessed the parents?

Why? I don't think it's that bad.

Better than some names I could think of but better not mention in case they belong to any GN members' relatives!

I thought it was quite an ok name, but then wondered if it had some strange connotations that I was unaware of?

Omg...no! There's an apocryphal story amongst Scottish secondary teachers that there are Glaswegian twins called Versace and Armani McGlatchie. Nuff said!

I was thinking about how her school friends probably called her Gary.
