I think I might post something on Gransnet and then I think, no…why bother. There are intelligent, informed and aware posters and there are, frankly ignorant, stupid and on-another-planet posters and I just think, don't bother absent, just don't bother.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 24-Jun-15 20:08:35

It can't all be light relief though. That would get boring.

whitewave Wed 24-Jun-15 20:13:54

ash oh yes I had forgotten that!!!!!

Bellanonna Wed 24-Jun-15 20:14:50

Generally speaking, I suppose that I mainly post a load of insubstantial observational, waffle stuff although I have been known to go over to the "Dark Side" , i.e posting things on possibly contentious threads, but only if I feel I might have something to contribute.

Of course there are also the posts where I wade in regardless, but as a rule I do tend to stick to the vanilla stuff.

But then again, sometimes my dander is up, and I launch myself like a small cellulite covered grenade.

Judthepud2 Wed 24-Jun-15 20:34:50

Hello Henetha smile I know what you mean. Sometimes I write a post that I hoped was of interest but there is no response. I don't think it is invisibility, just that it is impossible to respond to everyone.

I'm one of those who prefer not to post on controversial subjects, but I do read them. Prefer not to get demolished as had that on Twitter once and it got very unpleasant and upsetting.

I think if we were talking face to face you would see people's body language and hear sounds indicating you are being listened to. Perhaps Gransnet could consider increasing the emoji bank?

Judthepud2 Wed 24-Jun-15 20:37:36

And welcome HappyNan1 and Bamm. Enjoy the 'craic'! grin

Stansgran Wed 24-Jun-15 20:38:36

Phoenix your restraint is very impressive .i feel I have something important to say about everything and anything but I'm too lazy to post on every thread and I have a rule that only online with drink in hand(a fine Georgian red if you must know).waffles are good. In fact a new emoticon for ramblers and waffles should be produced. Much nicer than a biscuit.

Ana Wed 24-Jun-15 20:43:02

I agree that the emoticons are a bit limited. The hmm one always looks rather unfriendly, but sometimes I use it because confused isn't quite right...

bikergran Wed 24-Jun-15 21:12:04

waves to glass (soz was out in garden) grin

henetha Wed 24-Jun-15 21:42:17

This is a nice friendly thread. Hi to everyone. I'm raising my (small) glass of sherry to all of you right now...grin wine.
Good night....

bikergran Wed 24-Jun-15 22:25:49

cheers henetha large small glass of wine grin

grannyactivist Wed 24-Jun-15 22:50:36

I don't have as much time to read all the 'active' threads as I used to do so I post much more infrequently.

AshTree Thu 25-Jun-15 08:38:04

jinglbells I agree about it not being all light relief. I'm more than happy, though, to lurk in the heavy threads and giggle at enjoy all the squabbling and self-righteous indignation intellectual debate without getting drawn in and exposing myself to attack grin.

Grannyknot Thu 25-Jun-15 08:47:35

smile what teetime, ash and others have said on page 1.

Or, I'm not here for a long time, I'm here for a good time grin

Re the OP, there are ignorant and stupid people in all walks of life. There are pompous, boring and intolerant people too.

Dad or chip?

rosesarered Thu 25-Jun-15 17:00:51

do you know absent I find myself agreeing with what you wrote in the OP, I feel the same many times . so sometimes I bother to post, and others not.

rosesarered Thu 25-Jun-15 17:02:34

In fact, I would imagine we all feel the same, but perhaps would not have posted it.

Atqui Thu 25-Jun-15 17:14:14

Was the OP meant to be arrogant and rude or was it a joke?Apologies if this sounds ignorant or Alienconfused

trisher Thu 25-Jun-15 17:22:03

I post on all sorts of things which is probably significant-never have learned to keep my mouth shut! I hope sometimes I am helpful, I know I get into political debates because of my leftish views (sorry grandad was a communist!). I hope I have a sense of humour about these things though, and I am sorry if some people are upset by what I say. Sometimes my ideas run away with me, and sometimes (Shh) I read what I have posted and think 'did I really say that?'!

Greenfinch Thu 25-Jun-15 18:32:32

I don't post much now as I find too many posters speak down to me and I just want to justify myself but can't be bothered. Someone once tried to explain to me what a foster mother is (!) though I have been one myself. I must come across as naïve .We don't know each others' backgrounds so should be careful with comments.

I really enjoy the meet-ups though and can speak openly and really listen to others. You get to know where others are coming from then (and I don't mean geographically).

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 25-Jun-15 18:34:05

I am surprised absent has had nothing to say in response to the comments on this thread.

Greenfinch Thu 25-Jun-15 18:43:48

Perhaps she is in bed.
