I think I might post something on Gransnet and then I think, no…why bother. There are intelligent, informed and aware posters and there are, frankly ignorant, stupid and on-another-planet posters and I just think, don't bother absent, just don't bother.

Stansgran Wed 24-Jun-15 12:57:06

Happynan some people have met up and therefore know each other But I suspect the vast (silent) majority get to like a particular style of poster. It gets a bit worrying when you search for names because you know they are going through anxious times and don't see their names for a while. I start wondering if I should stop drinking tea as I pick up the iPad with the teapot in the other hand.too much invested in my leisure time .

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 24-Jun-15 13:05:56

Yes, it just means the "original poster" HappyNan. The person who started the thread. smile

Tegan Wed 24-Jun-15 13:22:19

I agree with absent.

HappyNan1 Wed 24-Jun-15 13:24:00

Hi Bellasnona, Stansgran and jinglebellfrocks, thank you so much for your replies, you've made my day, brew and cupcake all round. Now I've got an iPhone and DD put gn on it for me I can join in too smile

annodomini Wed 24-Jun-15 13:25:55

Hello, henetha, I wondered where you were and am glad you are still with us. smile

Greyduster Wed 24-Jun-15 13:36:51

I was a GN member in the early days. I left for a long time because I got absolutely fed up of the what seemed to me to be a deterioration into the awful politics of the playground on so many of the threads. There were members then who seemed to be downright predatory! Since I have come back, I note there are still elements of that (I suppose it would be pretty anodyne if we were all polite to each other all the time wouldn't it?) but, on the whole, things seem to have quietened down! I will continue to look, and put in my boring four 'pennorth occasionally.

grannyactivist Wed 24-Jun-15 13:41:42

Hello HappyNan1 and welcome. If you've been lurking for a while then I guess you know which threads may get a little heated and which ones are more lighthearted. You'll soon get the hang of posting and we look forward to seeing your name cropping up. (You'll also know that it takes up a lot of time!) smile

Bamm Wed 24-Jun-15 13:43:43

I only joined gn recently and want to join in but don't know what to say really; except that my grandchildren live in the USA and I miss them. I suppose I just want to know other grans are out there.

soop Wed 24-Jun-15 14:36:51

Bamm ...should you feel up to meeting the Granspals in SOOPS kindly kitcheners you will be made most welcome and will find it easy to fit in. flowers

ffinnochio Wed 24-Jun-15 14:44:37

Bamm ...and following on from soop's comment, you'll find quite a few threads about being a long-distance grandparent. There are quite a few of us who have grandchildren living in other countries.

Bamm Wed 24-Jun-15 14:57:59

Thank you for your posts.

henetha Wed 24-Jun-15 15:35:08

Bellanonna and Annodomini.... Thank you thank you thank you!!!
I'm not invisible after all ! Yippee! I'm so glad I decided to check the thread again. You have really cheered me up. smile

dustyangel Wed 24-Jun-15 15:35:12

While I was composing and losing my post two more of you have posted so Hello and welcome to Bamm and hello to HappyNan as well.

There's nothing like GN to make you realise that you are not the only one to do something or other.
I read a lot more than I post. I tend to forget that people don't know that Im lurking and agreeing with them or not by some form of osmosis.
I like the easy 'chatting over a cup of coffee' threads. I like the deeper and possibly more contentious ones as well but Im not likely to record my views for posterity on those. Then there are the times that while I'm still trying to work out my opinion on something Elegran posts and puts it far more eloquently than I can.

Typing this out I've remembered that I sometimes wait until DH has gone out so that he doesn't realise quite how addicted I am. (Who am I kidding?) grin

dustyangel Wed 24-Jun-15 15:37:43

henetha grin

HappyNan1 Wed 24-Jun-15 15:59:30

Thank you also dusty angel and granny activist for your welcome. I look after g/ch 4 days a week at their house and often do housework too, DD said productivity would go down once I got an phone. I think she maybe right as gn is terribly addictive grin

glassortwo Wed 24-Jun-15 16:12:38

I read more than I post these days, but end up having and argument with myself over something some has posted grin so dont inflict that on the rest of you.

Think I might be one of absents on-another-planet posters grin

Do you think us old timers have just got a bit jaded wink

Hello to all the new Gnetters sunshine

bikergran Wed 24-Jun-15 16:13:20

welcome back to any ...poster who disappeared for a while and came back..welcome HappyNan1 hello henetha

I think sometimes circumstances can make us just sit in a corner and listen and learn whilst not joining in a thread for fear of repercussions, sometimes we have other things going on in our lives and GN takes a back seat for a while.
I see GN as a piece of elastic that sometimes stretches and stretches, but eventually "pings" you back smile

I tend not to join in any confrontational debates, but I do still read some, I am for a quiet life, and have over the the last 8/9 mnths chatted to a few other Gnetters whom I feel like I have known forever, and some whom I have know from joining GN, my first PM was for Glassortwo in 2012 where are you glass!! smile

enjoy whatever grin

glassortwo Wed 24-Jun-15 16:14:08

An not and... must proof read posts grin

glassortwo Wed 24-Jun-15 16:15:09

I'm here biker smile

janeainsworth Wed 24-Jun-15 16:16:00

Stansgran I laughed at your post. I mean your post made me laugh.
(That's how easy it is to say the wrong thing and be misinterpreted)
You should have read the 'only for left-wing grans' thread.
I posted a link to 'Stuck in the Middle With You' to illustrate my political beliefs & values.
'Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right'
grin

Anne58 Wed 24-Jun-15 17:26:26

Welcome one and all, you can keep your shoes on, but please leave any "ism's" , generalisations or prejudices at the door. You never know, you might even find that you forget to collect them as you leave!

Remember to bring an open mind, sense of humour and compassion with you. Plus cupcake grin

Marelli Wed 24-Jun-15 19:10:38

Like a good few of us, I've been here more or less from the beginning, changing my name once. I used to post very regularly and join in with a few of the more contentious threads, but now I do sit back and just let everyone get on with it!
I have my own thoughts on things political, and don't think there's any point in having heated arguments over them. Of course, that's my opinion wink.
I do enjoy the meet-ups and have met some lovely people on Gransnet. We talk about anything and everything, (breaking off when someone has to rush for a train home!) but I don't think we've ever talked about any issue that's been discussed on any thread. smile

whitewave Wed 24-Jun-15 19:48:33

I have just read through this tjhread and realised with horror how annoyed I seem to have.e made people over my left thread. I can only apologise for what has clearly irritated grans. It was a clumsy effort at trying not to irritate those grans of a right wing bent as I was aware of the comments regarding people like me and how annoying we were bangi g on about our ideas. I am by nature a reconciler so I hope you will take this in the spirit it is givensmile

rockgran Wed 24-Jun-15 20:06:22

I haven't posted for ages because sometimes the lighthearted stuff just gets too heavy. I have my opinions but I don't want to argue. I prefer a bit of light relief on Gransnet. I'm also a long distance Grandma which is why I joined in the first place - and very helpful it was too.

AshTree Wed 24-Jun-15 20:08:31

whitewave, no offence taken <offers little finger to make up, make up, never never break up> grin
