Dgs's birthday.

Had lovely FaceTime call with DGS and saw all his presents.....one very lucky little boy! Felt much better after that. We've always made birthdays quite big events in our family probably because DD2 is on 18/12 and DS is 29/12. We tried to make their birthdays extra special when they were younger so they didn't get lost amongst the Xmas celebrations. It's something that's just continued with dgc

To be honest, I do not think any of us really see each other on official Birthdays (DDs and GC)....its just a date to be honest. We have 'second' even 'third' Birthdays to make up for it and funnily enough they feel just as special. We even have extra Christmases when visits cannot be made on the actual day. I've never seen it as a problem.

We usually see DGC the weekend before/after the birthday - and if the two coincide we do see them on the day.

We live 200 miles from them and usually see them every couple of months. In between we email and send post cards and little presents. They love getting letters and postcards - and they remind me if they have had, what they consider, too long between postings

I also seldom see my GC on their birthdays.It is just the way it is and I have never minded.Apart from the day she was born I have never been with GD2 on her birthday and she is 13 in July and GS1 now 16 I have seen twice.I don't always see the more local ones, we are not a celebratory type of family.

I have only been with DGS on one birthday since he was born

Its hard Katek. Why don't you write him a proper grown up letter? Its a bit old fashioned but my GS enjoys getting proper post.

I can imagine how you feel. We were just seeing our lot off from the drive last night when their car screeched to a halt and the window came down. "Nanny, you haven't given me a hug" came a little voice from the back seat! (Not sure if he deserved a hug - he knocked the head off on of my giant alliums playing football!) Enjoy your face time session with him and look forward to when you can give him a proper hug!

I am sure that he knows you are thinking of him and will enjoy his virtual hug.
