Listening to the shipping forecast last night and if Berwick is Ber-ick then why isn't Lerwick, Ler-ick?

Also, after fighting with my super king size duvet cover and getting lost inside it, why don't they come with a zip or Velcro fastening? Be much easier than all those fiddly buttons.

And Kirkaldy is Kirkoddy.
But if St John is sinjun, how do you pronounce St James?

From my neck of the woods.....Inverquhomery, pronounced Inver-hommery but with a 'ch' as in 'loch' where the 'h' is!

Farquhar is Farch'er, almost Fach'er. Have we had Dalziel yet, pronounced Dee-ell?

And how do you pronounce De'ath?

Marmight Sat 28-Mar-15 22:45:16

Kingussie : Kinewsy, Aberdour : Aberdower, Burntisland really is BurntISLAND, Glenrothes :'Glenrothis', and so it goes on..........

I had a boyfriend once with the surname De'ath and it wasn't pronounced as Death! (DeeAth)
Farquhar is another difficult one !! You have to be very careful......
