how about a new and happy thread, for the good bits in our lives.

So today I smiled because the first redstarts appeared in the garden and a gaggle fo noisy fieldfares.

I smiled today when 13-month old grandson watched enthralled as I dropped a feather from above his head and it fluttered slowly to the floor, and he then wanted me to do it again... and again... and again. It was a very small feather which had escaped from a cushion but it gave us both such great pleasure. A magic few minutes I'll never forget - I love these unplanned games which just 'happen' and could never be planned. smile

Ah poor boys - parent separation is such a difficult thing to come to terms with, especially in your teens. Hope they both get through this testing time quickly annsixty and tanith

I smile every day when I see the stupid mother duck that has chosen to make her nest by my front door. Mostly it's relief that a cat hasn't got her.

Then I frown because I remember that I cannot dig up that bed and rid it of bindweed and couch grass, as previously planned.

I smiled today when DGS aged 4 said "Yes Grandma, I would like some toast but can I have it cold?" I made toast and left it on the plate to cool. He came into the kitchen after 10 minutes touched the toast and pronounced it still warm and too crunchy. Turned out he really wanted a slice of bread!

Pittcity smile. DGS2 used to like sandwich thins toasted, which he calls 'thin toast', but now likes 'untoasted thin toast'!
I smiled today be cause we are coming home tomorrow and will see him and his little sister!

I smiled today when a car drew up outside with a large canoe strapped to the top. A few adults and some little children got out of the car. The children were promptly kitted out with life jackets. I then watched through the bedroom window as the canoe was put into the canal at the back of our house and excited little children got in and paddled off, with
the adults pulling the boat on a rope. We are in the Birmingham so it made me feel a bit rural ! smile

....because the blossom is out on the apple tree and it smells sublime!

This may seem an unusual one, but I was delighted to see the plethora of bright yellow dandelions along the verges today as I drove through Kent and sussex. An incredible number of these little flowers this year, making vividly colourful carpets rather than the few isolated ones I'm used to seeing. There must be a reason why there are so many - obviously the weather pattern has favoured them.

It was lovely. smile

I smiled this morning when I came downstairs and saw the debris that I couldn't fit into the dishwasher last night, after Book Club. An evening of friends, book talk, raspberry cider and nibbles - wonderful.

Am now also smiling because it's raining! Which means that I shan't have to spend hours watering our very dry veg patch.

I smiled yesterday as I watched a blackbird flying in and out of our passionflower carrying nesting material!

Stansgran Sat 02-May-15 09:05:11

I smiled because there were four jays under the lilac tree scavenging the seed that the woodpecker was shaking out of the feeder.

jenn Sat 02-May-15 20:22:04

I smiled today when my parking was 58 minutes.

loopylou Sat 02-May-15 20:27:06

I smiled when I found pink forget me nots in a border.
I don't remember ever seeing any colour other than blue but apparently there are shades of blue, pink and even white varieties smile

ginny Sat 02-May-15 23:07:44

I smiled today because the 'mummy' blackbird that is nesting in my garden scavenged through the pile of rubbish I had swept up and distributed it all over the patio !
