More storms again, we are getting warnings, its quite scary already our roof tiles are rattling, candles at the ready, tomorrows dinner sorted. Gusts of 100m an hour are forecast for here. The schools will probably close tomorrow and for us no ferries or planes, which means no food lorries. everyone in the path of it please take care.

Oh newist, do hope storm passes quickly and with no or little damage. It is so scary when at the mercy of the elements and nothing you can do but sit tight. The last big storm here in north Wiltshire frightened me, and generally I love being cosy indoors when there's a wind howling.

newist Thu 08-Jan-15 19:22:00

Thank You flowers

Agus Thu 08-Jan-15 19:28:48

I am South of you newist, W Scotland and our forecast is 80mph.

Hope you don't suffer any storm damage. Take care.

annodomini Thu 08-Jan-15 19:31:28

Fingers crossed for you Newist, Agus, soop and anyone else in the path of this storm.

Nelliemoser Thu 08-Jan-15 19:32:31

Newist You must be about the first GNer in the path of this storm.

I can imagine though that you are probably better prepared to manage such storms than we in the calmer areas of the UK are.

Take care out there.

NfkDumpling Thu 08-Jan-15 19:34:04

Ditto! Take care up there.

baubles Thu 08-Jan-15 19:41:24

I'm booked on a 7.30 am flight from Glasgow tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Batten down the hatches all of you in the area forecast to be affected, stay safe and warm (if you have the means).

newist Thu 08-Jan-15 19:41:35

You are all so kind, its my 2 cats I worry about, they hate it, we let them in bed with us so they can hide under the covers, as they are Ragdolls, in the morning we are covered in hairs

rosequartz Thu 08-Jan-15 19:44:23

I was just going to type 'batten down the hatches' but realise baubles has done that already.

Stay safe everyone, and I hope your flight is fine baubles.

Marelli Thu 08-Jan-15 19:46:31

Thinking about you all on the west side of the country. Hoping it'll pass over without too much damage - take care of yourselves.

Agus Thu 08-Jan-15 19:49:27

If the plane is fuelled with Irn Bru baubles you'll be fine grin

Fingers crossed for you though that your flight takes off without any delays.

harrigran Thu 08-Jan-15 23:31:40

Thinking of you all in exposed areas. The wind is gale force here tonight and it is very noisy, I will have to wear ear plugs if I am to get any sleep.

Pretty wild here in North Lanarkshire, praying ahv still got glass in my greenhouses, took forever to pick up all the glass in the garden last time, poor dogs couldn't use garden for a week after the storm.

Wheniwasyourage Fri 09-Jan-15 09:48:28

Hope those in the West are all right. Even here in the North-East we've had trees down (one just down the road and one blocking the main road to Aberdeen at least) and the trains are off for most of the day until they've inspected the lines.

baubles Fri 09-Jan-15 11:16:20

Hope no one has been too badly affected. Had to turn back and take another route out of my town as the usual road was blocked by a fallen tree.
My flight took off on time & the flight was just a little bumpy. A beautiful day here in London though. smile

Elegran Fri 09-Jan-15 11:30:33

Blustery winds all night here, but calm this morning. My front garden now contains a whole lot of shredded paper and a decrepit Christmas tree (neither of them mine)

rosequartz Fri 09-Jan-15 12:27:30

Very windy here; I can hear something crashing around the garden [help]

hildajenniJ Fri 09-Jan-15 13:01:47

Windy overnight with us!! I thought that the greenhouse had blown away at one point. When I went to work at 03.30 I found parts of the log shelter almost under DH's car! It's a good job it blew about on the ground! I am not looking forward to the weekend as we live on a hill.shock

granjura Fri 09-Jan-15 13:36:22

Stay safe all. Does anyone know if any airports have been affected, as DD2 is expecting a friend from NYork?

numberplease Fri 09-Jan-15 15:40:44

I hope all in Scotland are safe. There were some very scary sounding winds here last night. We live in an end terraced, with a passage down the side, then an 8` wall separating us from a housing estate. About 2am there was a noise like an express train rushing through a tunnel, but everything outside was OK this morning. The wind wasn`t quite as strong this morning, but it`s building again now.

Brendawymms Fri 09-Jan-15 16:41:49

For some reason it's getting very windy down here in the South East. Nothing on Scotland but quite rough.

loopylou Fri 09-Jan-15 16:52:58

Very rough here, fir trees in wood behind us bending more that 45 degrees and horrible howling noise, giving me a headache.
Goodness knows what it's like in the north......

Thistledoo Fri 09-Jan-15 19:00:22

Very rough night, wind sounded like an express train running passed our house, trees down everywhere and no power. Hoping to get a bit more sleep tonight but it seems we are in for a bit of the same with snow storms mixed in, brrr. Cat very upset.

loopylou Fri 09-Jan-15 19:05:17

Do so hope all GNs up North are safe and little damage done, it's getting even worse here, neighbour's fence blown across road and trees down so cut off from village. Poor cat Thistle, so little you can do when you have distressed animals sad x
