More storms

Marmight, I read your post wrongly and thought a cow had fallen off your chimney ! Really windy again tonight...the barn door in the farmyard across the road is rattling and rumbling. I can just about hear it over DH's snoring...... .

My dd and family are due back from Cape Town tomorrow. They won't know what's hit them. I told them on the phone to wear warm clothes for their arrival here but apparently they don't even have jackets with them! Young people today etc!

My tin 'shed' where I keep logs and bins took off down the side path on Thursday and again on Friday. I haven't looked today, it will just have to stay where it is until the storms are over. Christmas tree is now at the top of the garden along with the barbeque and the wheelbarrow, the plastic cover for the outside furniture is now in the bin having ripped off, not to mention a cowl off the chimney - not sure if it's mine or my neighbours. I just saw a very fat pigeon being blown off the wall - luckily he got his wings flapping just in the nick of . At least the swirling snow yesterday just kept on swirling and didn't lie. Roll on Sydney!

113 mph? I find 30mph bad enough.

Winds have always scared me, especially after losing our garage roof in the 87 storm.

I have just been connected back onto the internet, we have been "off" since Thursday night. I still have no mobile signal. We have had very little electricity, just enough to keep the freezers alright.
It has been horrendous, the winds in Stornoway reached 113m an hour, hurricane force. There is quite a lot of damage, roofs especially badly hit. we have been lucky, only 2 ridge tiles off but damage on all the other tiles on the way down, just missing the car. There are still no ferries and tomorrows is doubtful which means the shops running out off fresh produce. the awful thing is even though the wind isn't as bad as it was, its still blowing a gale which is set to continue for a few more days making the places already damaged in greater danger.

I dislike strong wind too Brenda.

And I dont know the point of windy weather.

Also, on a personal level, it always gives me headaches.

Winds have eased and sunny bits at last! Had job keeping car on the road driving to town, better coming back.
Now to get on with cleaning oven, wash filthy car, get housework done [without any degree of enthusiasm].......

jane10 . Still very strong winds here, dark sky and now it is snowing. Cat hasn't gone out at all this morning she is sitting looking out the window and thankfully doesn't seem upset.

Jane10 !! We're not all that far from you (just across the Forth) and it's been snowing here. The oak tree at the bottom of the garden is waving about something awful!! Cat is sitting, huffily, under DH's legs at present...not a happy cat either. She's opened the cat-flap then backed in again!

nina passing wind has always been an underappreciated talent of mine!

Last year our greenhouse blew down in a storm and was scrapped. We invested in a sturdier one. Last night we chased most of the new one around the garden. Sigh!

Jane you've passed it over wind is increasing here now.
Still not as bad as the North though but enough to make my patio doors 'sing' which they do when wind is in the right wrong direction.

It may be wishful thinking but it just might have calmed down a bit. Just heard that we have snow on the way. The sky is black with clouds. Might have to break into my emergency sausage roll supply!

Thinking of you all. We have so far escaped with nothing more than a few strong gusts over the last few days here in N Kent. Nothing like the forecast said. At the moment I would say it's no more than breezy and our house is on the coast road too.

East Herefordshire here - v windy (and on cue - very squally shower just arrived - fortunately 'lurch' and I had had our morning 'blow the cobwebs away' walk) and I live on a hill facing south/south west but I feel as the house has stood here (half timbered) for over 300 years it should stand up to 40/50 mph gusts.
I do feel for those in the far north but hope their houses are built to withstand what the westertly winds will throw at them

Still seems to be getting worse here (N Wiltshire) too Jane. Cannot believe how strong the winds are out there- swinging chair blown length of the garden, next door's glass topped garden table has gone over their 5 foot fence in to the woods. The noise of the wind in the trees is dreadful, never heard or seen anything like this in the 18 years we've lived here.

It's nice to feel I'm not really on my own. Poor Baz the cat is still upset but luckily is very cuddly so is good company right now!

When the hurricane hit here in 1987 the whole house was shaking and I was terrified. Since then I dislike strong wind. So everyone be kind to yourselves and keep safe.

l am sat here thinking of you, I also have my neighbours cat here I can't believe she braved the wind , she is usually terrified to come here when its windy she has had some breakfast and is now snoring at my feet ,been here since 10 to six, we are in Shropshire very windy but cannot hear it as lounge is facing north and it is all going on in the front of our house. Its nice to think we are all here for each other.

Oh Jane, how scary! Are you Up North?

I'm sitting here shaking. The wind is so strong it's hard to believe the windows won't blow in. The whole place is creaking and groaning. I had to get up because the poor cat was so upset. There's nothing I can do about it but hope it just stops soon. DH has had to drive to a course today. Just hope the roads are ok. Sorry. Just had to tell someone!

Its very windy here in Northumberland, rattley doors and windows. I expect I will have to share my bed with 2 scaredy cats again tonight.
At least they will keep me warm.
