Dry January anyone?

I've just bought a beautiful set of crystal wine glasses from a charity shop, a real bargain. So I'll have to test them, won't I ? x

Just got back from an unplanned weekend in York and succumbed to a nice bottle of red on Saturday night

Pittcity I sympathise. My unplanned visits to York generally involve spotty or snotty DGC and mean I clutch at my gin when I get home. DH had a significant birthday a few days ago and lots of cases of delectable wine winged there way here. We don't have much space so we either drink the stuff we've got in or the new lot. Decisions decisions.

Lots of cases! Aren't there 12 bottles in a case? The mind boggles...

We did have a nice dinner with the wine!

We went out to lunch yesterday for our 44th wedding Anniversary had a superb and I mean Superb meal with a delightful bottle of Pinio Grigio

Then had a small siesta , after which we opened the Champagne, quaffed
and enjoyed, and reminisced about times gone by
.
THEN we opened another bottle of wine and just enjoyed.

So dry January has at the moment passed by this house.

Congratulations Nonu. It's our 44th this year too, 1971was a vintage year for weddings. I will toast you tomorrow - any excuse.

A glass of chilled Chablis is one of life's little pleasures.

A friend cooked me a lovely roast lamb dinner tonight and we shared a bottle of Chardonnay that she had produced. Just as we were finishing it off, she suddenly remembered that she had bought a bottle of red to go with the lamb. Well, it would have been rude to refuse, wouldn't it?

I am glad there a few who enjoy a bottle or two, I was getting a bit concerned that all gransnetters were teetotal or only drank a thimbleful of sherry once a year. I am still doing dry January, it's ok but a bit boring and it's only day 12. Instead of sitting down with a nice chilled glass watching House of Cards, I now sit down with a bowl of crisps and a pint of orange juice and soda, so I don't think I'm saving much on the calories.

I'm with you suzied. I like a drink but the amount of people who seem to drink that thimbleful was giving me a complex! Of course, good luck to them and they are doing what they want to do and it is very sensible. I like to sit with a glass at night. Life in these parts is very stressful at the moment and we need something to help us unwind. I don't smoke and am healthy (touch wood). Well done Nonu and congratulations
