Holidaying alone

Hi to all -
after splitting from my not-so-DH this time last year, I have taken the decision to have a holiday abroad (to Malta), which is happening in a couple of weeks time. I have flown by myself before but I am feeling a bit cautious about arriving and then having to get a taxi to take me to my destination.
I am staying in a hotel on half-board terms, for a week, so again not troubled about catering.
I intend to visit a couple of places (I like art so I am hoping to see a Carravagio whilst I am there) and I believe there is a winter bus service that I can use.
Any advice about lone female travelling would be welcome - I'm in my early 60s- plus anything on Malta would be welcome.
Many thanks,
ShowerGel

Hi all - ages since I logged onto the site. Bet you all thought I'd gone to Malta and then got lost grin.
Truth is I took all of your advice and as a result had an okay time.
I caught the bus from the airport, buying a weekly ticket, which served me for additional travel whilst I was there.
It was 20c on the day of arrival - it dipped to around 15c on other days and there were a couple of brief spells of rain but too brief to bother about.
I took a loaded TravelCard but didn't spend much money so I came back with nearly as much on the card.
At the hotel the food was plentiful and there were several Brits on their own. One man started a conversation with me and he became the person with whom I had a chat with most evenings. (He did give me his address and phone details but he isn't my type - too much whiskey imbibing - that is what I walked away from in my marriage).
I had a real sense of achievement (and a bit of a sun tan) when I returned home. I'd like to go back again, as I know there is plenty more to see there.
Have been busy with events and stuff since returning, so I apologise for the delay in posting.
Thank you for your guidance - it certainly helped me.

Lots of good information and brave GN's on this thread. Thanks. All I need to find now is the courage to "go it alone" blush
