Why did you choose your username?

mrsmopp Tue 30-Dec-14 17:38:11

I chose mrsmopp because i have a mop of thick, naturally curly hair which has a will of its own.
Not because my occupation was a cleaning lady, as in: "Can I do you now, sir?" That wasn't me!

Agus Tue 30-Dec-14 19:18:35

One half of my family are Gaelic speakers and agus (and) was the fist Gaelic word I taught DDs and GDs

There have been a few ocassions when I have been addressed as Angus on GN, even spellcheck insists I mean Angus grin

ginny Tue 30-Dec-14 19:18:53

The family nick name for me when I was small.

Gagagran Tue 30-Dec-14 19:36:50

Because my dear old Mum used to say "I'm going gaga" when she forgot something so it's in memory of her really. And I am a Gran!

absent Tue 30-Dec-14 19:41:26

I started out as absentgrana because I lived on the opposite side of the world from my grandchildren. This became shortened to absent and, although I have now emigrated to New Zealand, I have stayed with absent in spite of being present, as it were.

AlieOxon Tue 30-Dec-14 19:44:17

I was Oxon70....only after a bit I wasn't 70 any more.....

Pittcity Tue 30-Dec-14 20:15:10

We are the Pitts and our house is similar to Piccadilly Circus!
Have had this username for all occasions over many years, not exclusive to GN.

KatyK Tue 30-Dec-14 20:18:32

Some of your user names are great. Mine is boring. I just put it when i joined, I should have given it more thought.

Ariadne Tue 30-Dec-14 20:20:47

Ariadne was the daughter of King Minos of Crete in Greek mythology, and associated with mazes and, of course, the labyrinth, from which she rescued Theseus. (I studied Classics as well as English.)

So, in essence, a woman who helped a man get out of a mess.....

joannapiano Tue 30-Dec-14 20:33:11

I can play the old joanna, (badly). I grew up with tunes like Knees up Mother Brown sung by my loud Cockney family, and Dad on the piano.

Crafting Tue 30-Dec-14 20:40:48

Oh shucks jings your was the one I really wanted to know the meaning of, it being so unusual. Can't you make something up tchgrin

I get it Galen (I had to google it too) tchblush

Mine is just a hobby really. I wish I had thought of something more exotic, romantic, funny or interesting but didn't realise I would be stuck with it. Too late to change now, I'd forget who I was if I changed it.tchgrin

janerowena Tue 30-Dec-14 20:41:29

Because it's my name! At least I'm unlikely to forget it.

annodomini Tue 30-Dec-14 21:04:13

I think mine is obvious - 'time's winged chariot' and all that!

numberplease Tue 30-Dec-14 21:05:28

I used to be a GPO telephone operator, in the dim and distant past. Sometimes when the supervisor wasn`t about, we`d answer with "rubber knees" instead!

Ariadne Tue 30-Dec-14 21:46:34

jings isn't this this is about your fourth or fifth incarnation, and didn't it happen round about one Christmas? it has a Christmassy feel to it, anyway. tchsmile

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 30-Dec-14 21:59:19

For Crafting.

I started out on Mumsnet, years back now, as agy. Changed it one Christmastime to JaNgLyBELLS. That got changed to jangly. That got changed to jingle (due to leaving and returning). Then it became jingl for the same reason. Then it was JO2 (God knows why - think it was bags's idea). Then there was JO3, and perhaps 4. (You keeping up?) then I came back again as jinglebells. Then as jinglbells (subtle difference there). Then jinglebellsrocks. Then jinglbellsfrocks.

tchsmile

Ana Tue 30-Dec-14 22:00:33

You missed out whatsamathingy or similar...

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 30-Dec-14 22:00:49

and that was also for Ariadne. tchsmile

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 30-Dec-14 22:03:06

Oh yes! That was 'whatsamashedupjingl' because you used to be able to return with a - quoting GNHQ - a 'mashed up' version of your previous name.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 30-Dec-14 22:03:41

I think I was getting desperate by then.

soontobe Tue 30-Dec-14 22:06:33

Have most posters been around since the very beginning?

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 30-Dec-14 22:08:31

Oh, long before the beginning. tchsmile

ninathenana Tue 30-Dec-14 22:10:33

Nina is a nickname derived from the name on my passport. No body has ever called me by that name. I have always been known by my middle name even on the school register.

Nina was taken when I joined so I added 'thenana'

merlotgran Tue 30-Dec-14 22:13:50

wine tchgrin

Crafting Tue 30-Dec-14 22:16:57

Thank you jings, it's like having my own bedtime story. Not sure I ever believed in reincarnation until now tchgrin

Penstemmon Tue 30-Dec-14 22:22:46

I'd spent the day planting up a flower bed with penstemons and then
mis-typed it when I registered!
