Bra for 2 yr olds in J Lewis

Faye I had to go out and buy myself a vest when I was in N Queensland!

These 'bras' are still on JL's website, and still for sale. So all that's happened is they've changed the sizing - which if the smallest only measures 20" is wrong anyway!

Hopefully other stores/manufacturers pay heed to the outcry against inappropriate clothing for children and realise their product may just result in bad publicity.

According to the Daily Mail article the 'bras' only measure 20 inches which would be smaller than a 2 year old. Absolutely bonkers! Should we not be criticising the mothers who buy these garments too?

Not just us then

They are now sized from 28AA to 32A which would not fit 2-5 year olds anyway.

Just looked on the JL website and they are still there, listed under crop tops but named as 'bras'.

They've just changed the size options from age to chest measurement.

It was most definitely on the JL website, gillybob. Bras for 2-5 year olds, described as 'bras', not crop tops, looked like soft cotton shaped bras.

They must have been inundated with messages and have responded.

At least they have responded and taken them off sale. But have they removed them from the stores as well?

Just noticed the heading above the illustration still says 'John Lewis Girl Vintage Floral Bra, Pack of 2, Multi'

I can't see a reference to any age at all on the link. Just the sizes 28aa etc. When I was 14 I was a 28aa. I didn't need a bra of any kind but would have welcomed something like this, which would have been better than wearing a little childs vest.

Our 5 year old has a 28" chest but I would still prefer her to have a vest on to keep her back warm.

When I started the thread ginny the link was bras for 2-5yr old.

I suspect, due to many complaints, JL have rethought this one but I think bras for 7yr olds is ridiculous too.

Yes, ginny. Yesterday the link gave ages from 2 to 5 and the product information referred to bras, not crop tops. As I said.

Youngest age I could see was 7. Don't think they need a bra either. Have JL quickly changed the page ?

I clicked the link. The 'bras' are sized 28A - 34A so obviously not for 2 year olds. It would seem there has been some misunderstanding.

All of my GC wear vests in winter even the two who live in Qld.

In the link I up up yesterday, the sizes have been changed and the description no longer says 'bras' but crop tops. So the page is still there.

It is disgusting and JL is the last place you would expect them.

My DGS still wears "vests" that fasten under his crotch.

Covering the body with a close fitting vest, or what ever, keeps a warm air layer next to the body. It keeps you a whole lot warmer as it prevents any draughts.
Says she wearing a longish M &S camisole (aka a vest with thinner straps.)
I seemed to notice that M &S a few years ago had actually started making their camisoles longer so that they actually tuck into trousers or a skirt.

It would be fine if these tops were a bit longer to reach the top of a child's pants. That would be good. Perhaps in these days of central heating and down jackets they don't need full length vests. But they are not. We should inundate JL with emails of complaint, and mention Gransnet.

JL are saying that the minimum size is 28" which is far too big for a 2 year old, leaving aside the inappropriateness of it.

The photos show what are definitely bras and not crop tops - they are shaped and would look pretty weird on a 2 year old, unless they stuffed some baby wipes down the cups.

It does sound like an error rather than an attempt to sexualise toddlers, which is heartily to be depracated.

I still have my first DD's first bra. It was a 28AAA - she was a VERY skinny teenager. But she loved it - she felt in with all her more rounded peers.

And would that type of bra/crop top really be useful to a young girl who actually needs support anyway?
