Am I a witch?

I was driving along yesterday in heavy traffic. We were proceeding slowly in an orderly queue when someone came whizzing up on the outside lane (meant for turning right) and then forced his way in front of me.

I was left impotently fuming but remarked (jokingly) to DH that I would put a curse on the driver, nothing too extreme.

Right at that point the hub cap on the offending driver's car started wobbling and came off, spinning spectacularly across the road to collide with another car. The driver was oblivious and drove on.

Now I'm wondering whether I have witchy powers. Maybe it's part of being a crone grin

I still feel delighted by the incident.

if you are you can join my coven of myself, my sister, 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters all of whom seem to 'make things happen'.

ninathenana Mon 08-Dec-14 09:38:44

Just desserts indeed smile

My friend and I call each other witch. Quiet often one of us will be typing a text and one will cone through from the other person. Or I'll plan to ring her in a few minutes and the phone will ring and it's her.

We have a 'green' witch in our village - she makes money out of it - I should pursue your newly acquired witchy powers tchwink

I might need to borrow you now and again when in traffic|!

I too seem to have the power. DIL sent text to tell me about the school concert, it was on the one morning that I could not go. I muttered and cursed under my breath telling the powers that be to change the time, six hours later DIL got in touch to say that they had changed the time to the afternoon and hey presto I am able to go tchgrin

There'll soon be enough of us to start a GN coven! grin

Pompa searches ebay for a ducking stool.

My dad always claimed my mum was a witch, because she was the seventh daughter of a Welshwoman confused. She did definitely have the knack of *making things happen". She once told a very bossy health visitor to walk under a bus, and the poor woman promptly did shock. I sometimes worry about how much I have inherited her "never forgive, never forget" temperament, but I haven't noticed any of my frequent ill-wishing coming to anything (phew).

I'll hop on the stool, pompa, just in case.

When I was much younger, and didn't have a DBH to teach me about the law of coincidence (and thereby take all the fun out of it) I did rather believe I must be a witch. It quite worried me for a while. The only two people I have ever wished dead (very mean people) both died of accidents shortly after. One, the first, was blown up rather spectacularly on Salisbury Plain. You can imagine how that shocked me! I tried to keep a very tight rein on what I wished for after that.

I often get a feeling when someone close to me needs me to phone them, email them or log into GN. So count me in your 13 please.

When I lived in Cornwall I used to wear a long black dress and wander around the lanes. One day an obnoxious child was quite rude to me and I told him I was a witch and had put a spell on him. I hope he didn't grow up damaged in some way. A child in my sons class at school got it into their head that I was a witch as well. I do wear black most of the time confused. There was a lot of witchcraft in Cornwall back then, but it was a long time ago. Strangely enough the remains of a witch at the witchcraft museum in Boscastle had my family name hmm....

I should emphasise I don't wish harm on people only that something might happen- phone call, cancelled meeting that kind of thing. would that I could wish warts on some people. tchgrin

Didn't we have a thread about curses ; I think phoenix came up with some good ones....

Minibags says I'm a witch and my mother said herself that she thought she was a witch sometimes, such as when we were moving house across the country and she "just knew" she had to make sure our tetanus vaccinations were up to date. A few weeks after we had moved one of my brothers (who was four at the time) fell and got a rusty old nail from a pigsty stuck in his knee shock

I think she was just a good planner and dead organised.

I have had jobs in the past where I have been really happy apart from there being one person working there who has been rather unpleasant. I used to sort of will them to leave and they usually did, even if they had been there years. Recently a member of my family got a really fantastic job but when he began, one member of staff was making his life really difficult. I told him to will him out and he would go. He said 'there is no chance'. But guess what a couple of months down the line this person was found to be involved in dodgy dealings and went. I realise this sounds a bit odd confused but it's true tchsmile

I find blue tak very good for making manikins and the pins stick in a treat.

Ana Mon 08-Dec-14 20:47:04

Does it work? Might have a go...tchwink

The laws of coincidence? Just asking.

When I taught Year 3 I always used Roald Dahl's 'The Witches' as my first class book. At the time I always wore black. As the story progressed I would make not so subtle hints about myself and the description of a witch...they wear black, wear wigs which make their heads itch so I would scratch my head and have no toes (I wore shoes so they couldn't see my toes).

The children always became worried and I would overhear conversations as to whether or not I was a witch.

On the day when we came to the part in which they discovered that witches spiked chocolates with magic which would change a child into a mouse I handed chocolates around. The next day one of the children was mysteriously missing. Unbeknown to us his parents had been contacted to say that his grandmother was seriously ill and they had to go to Poland asap. When we saw he was absent I jokingly said that I thought I'd seen a little mouse in the classroom and maybe my magic had worked. Most children laughed but one little boy became hysterical because he genuinely thought I had turned his best friend into a mouse. It turned out that in the part of Latvia he came from people still believed strongly in the power of witches and the evil eye.....ooops grin

Ana Tue 09-Dec-14 10:07:10

Goodness, it's a wonder those poor children weren't scarred for life! confused

harrigran Tue 09-Dec-14 11:03:42

Children are so ready to believe. When we went to visit GDs, at the weekend, DH had not shaved for a few days and he told the youngest that he was growing it so he could take over from Santa Claus. Her eyes were like saucers tchgrin

Faye Tue 09-Dec-14 11:32:38

Lately I have noticed when I am driving on long stretches of road and come up behind a slow truck or vehicle, they always turn off which saves me having to pass them. I was driving DD2 recently and had just told her about these trucks etc. As I was still telling her the vehicle I had just caught up to turned right onto a side road. She had to believe me. smile

KatyK my sister did the same thing. Even though there was no chance this difficult man she worked with would ever leave she still told him in her mind every day to go nicely on your way. About six weeks later he was offered another job and left.

KatyK Tue 09-Dec-14 15:23:59

Faye - I know that this is nothing more than coincidence but it really has worked for me a couple of times. The family member I mentioned was about to hand in his notice as he was finding it impossible to work with this man (his boss). I kept telling him to stick with it (it is a really good job) and this man would go. He looked at me as if I was nuts then out of the blue, the man was escorted from the premises and my relative is now happy in his job.
