I must admit if I had taken sausages out of the freezer and put the correct amount of potatoes and a tin of baked beans out, then I could have expected something!
He is very useful at doing other things though (just not cooking!)

ps we didn't have sausages, I had taken chicken pieces out of the freezer so he had no clue what to do with it! although we have about 30 cookery books.

charleygirls the temptation was there but oh, what a waste of wine!!

The slow cooker is my saviour if I have to be out and about and don't want to have to do everything when I get home. DH will happily prepare veg and cook things like mashed potato but he's no longer confident about cooking from scratch.

He does do lovely breakfasts though.

Had I been organised I would have done that, merlotgran - in fact the recipe was originally a slow cooker recipe but it seemed to do OK on the stove top in 45 minutes!

It was my husbands day off. He knows my job has been extra stressful of late. I came in and he was watching Dave. He wouldn't dream of cooking a meal unless I left very clear instructions. But he did clean the oven. It's positively gleaming so ....he's forgiven

Clearly not grown men - a grown man would be a) doing his share of grandparent duties and / or b) his share of domestic duties. How can any man or woman think that it is ok for one partner to be out busy all day and then to come home in the evening and cook the evening meal?

He does do his share of GP duties, well some anyway!, he is top of the pops with DGD2 at the moment.
And does do all the ironing (I don't do it properly apparently!!) which I find boring.

Not a cook though ........ unless it is a fry-up which he can manage for himself as I refuse to do it.

If he does the ironing I would be inclined to keep him. That is a job that I hate.

I couldn't put him out in the cold just before Christmas now, could I! Although I suppose I could put a heater in the greenhouse for him.

He will peel the veg, scrub the pans - and has volunteered to cook a meal this week (hotpot, his one speciality!). What more could I ask?
