I ordered a CD from Amazon. Today a CD arrived, correct tracking number, wrong CD, so far so good/bad. I check my order, that is quite clear about which CD I had ordered.

I go onto Amazon to go through their process for returning incorrect goods and getting correct items, to discover they have a process for returning products for all kinds of reasons and giving you a quick refund, but the possibility that they might have supplied the wrong item and you want to exchange it for the correct item is something that has never entered their minds.

What do I do? Their system turns products into codes, so if I return the CD, accept repayment and then re-order, will I end up with the same wrong CD again because either the code on the site is wrong or the code on the bin they retrieved the CD from is wrong.

I have decided to return the CD and buy the one I want from another seller, even if it costs more. But what makes a company so arrogant that they cannot imagine or have a system to deal with the possibility that they might, just might, now and again send out the wrong item?

I mentioned on another thread that I had seen a DVD wrongly priced at £59.99. Amazon said I had to contact the seller, which I have but still no reply.

Does anyone remember a couple of Christmases ago my coffee machine saga? blush

I'm having this issue at the moment! I ordered a Kenwood electric knife at £29.99 inc postage. I got a Quest electric knife, cost £12.99 plus postage. i contacted the seller who said that was the only one they had so they sent it anyway. Didn't explain why they had deducted the full price though. If I send it back, 2nd class, I can have refund and my postage back. Grrrrrr!!

To be fair, I have never had a problem with Amazon before. And I do know that I shouldn't use them but I have no time at the moment and it is easy! blush

How could we forget Phoenix!

Ana Thu 27-Nov-14 17:31:33

I've always been able to print off a return label for any Amazon product I've had to send back, no questions asked.

Ariadne Thu 27-Nov-14 17:32:40

Indeed, nik! don't encourage her what a saga that was! grin

Ana I have no problem returning the product, it is just that Amazon do not have system for then supplying me with the correct product. All I seem to be able to do is return it, get a refund and re-order, with no guarantee the same thing will not happen again, and again, and again.

My purchase is a direct from Amazon purchase, not a marketplace purchase. If it was a marketplace purchase I would be able to approach the seller directly to sort it out.

I accept that Amazon are, generally, very reliable. It is their failure to have a system to deal with their (rare) cock-ups that is irritating me.

Sorry, Flickety, yes I see your problem - my reply was to kitty.

Anne58 Thu 27-Nov-14 17:51:37

Ahem (quiet cough noise) I'm very happy with our coffee machine. Singular.

MiniMouse Thu 27-Nov-14 18:20:02

Phoenix Please relate your coffee machine saga! I've tried to track it down, but no success. Perhaps you remember the thread title? I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to find out more wink

Ana Thu 27-Nov-14 18:36:00

I've found one of them...

Thanks Ana! I've started reading it, but I really must get the dinner on. There again . . . . . grin

MiniMouse Thu 27-Nov-14 19:19:34

Yep, I succumbed and read it. It'll have to be pasta tonight now no time for spud bashing etc!

Phoenix's anecdotes should be on prescription grin

There used to be a thing to click (very technical) on the Amazon website and they would phone you within 5 minutes. My friend did this when her camera was delivered damaged and explained she was going on holiday 2 days later. They couriered her another camera and told her not to bother returning the damaged one till after her holiday. Result!

rosequartz Thu 27-Nov-14 19:26:18

I daren't mention Black Friday blush

Anne58 Thu 27-Nov-14 19:30:17

MiniMouse* blush

At least you will be spared the "Cursing of the Gammon" one, because I can now do it in the slow cooker!

Anne58 Thu 27-Nov-14 19:38:06

Ackshewally, Ana that was the sensible bit! grin

Ana Thu 27-Nov-14 19:40:21

Well, you find the prequel or tell it all again, phoenix - only trying to help!

Ana Thu 27-Nov-14 19:49:02

Oops, forgot the grin

Anne58 Thu 27-Nov-14 20:03:06

Oh heavens Ana I'm not sure I would know where to start! grin

vampirequeen Thu 27-Nov-14 20:10:03

I've never had a problem with Amazon but maybe I've just been lucky.

rosesarered Thu 27-Nov-14 20:10:40

I see your problem Flickety they would probably send the same thing.
I have always found Amazon to be good for returning things [other than your problem!] The last time we ordered something, it was DH who wanted a painted canvas pic for his study, when it arrived [copy of a Turner] the sky was a weird colour on the painting, not as advertised. The seller told us he would refund us and not to bother sending it back, we could keep it or throw it away.Another time an item was 3 weeks late, so we could keep it, but didn't have to pay anything.

FlicketyB Fri 28-Nov-14 08:25:19

Well, wrong CD is on its way back to Amazon and the CD I wanted is on order through ebay. Same price, so no problems.

Deedaa Sun 30-Nov-14 00:12:19

I had forgotten Mr P cornering the coat and beating it into submission grin grin grin

The Cursing of The Gammon should be required reading every Christmas - possibly even forming part of the sermon for Midnight Mass.

Mustn't speak too soon but I've never had any problems with Amazon (crossed fingers emoticon)

Maggiemaybe Sun 30-Nov-14 00:56:15

I'd have risked asking for a replacement, sending them a message at the same time to explain the problem.

I order from Amazon all the time and think they have the best customer service around (granted, I have to turn a blind eye to their tax avoidance shenanigans). I have never had a problem with refunds or replacements. I once signed up for their Subscribe and Save service for an item I buy regularly. When the 3 monthly order arrived I was cross to find the price had increased by 10%. I contacted Amazon to whinge and say I wanted to cancel the service and they came straight back with an apology, confirmation that it was cancelled, and the news that my account would be refunded the £99 I had spent and I could keep the goods. And a shelving unit costing around £150 once went on a long detour around Northern England before arriving 3 weeks late - I had the price of it refunded to my account without having to ask.
