It's not the money they earn that makes them annoying Jingl just their personalities.

They don't annoy me. I enjoy some of their music. I can live with the fact that they earn a lot of money.

Annoying as these ageing rockers are, if this will raise money quickly to help ebola patients and their families, then I am all for it.These poor families are more or less sealed into their houses where most of them quietly die.Just like the plague here in the 1600's.

I can't imagine how awful it must be to have your child dying like that and only be allowed anywhere near him with that scary looking protective clothing on. Or how frightening it must be for the child.

No one is perfect through and through. But at least these musicians are trying to help.

Mind you if I was a Mum watching one of my children with ebola I wouldn't give a toss where the money came from as long as I thought something was being done to help my child, and someone somewhere was thinking about the dreadful situation I found myself in.

It is all a bit sad really.

The world of charity giving has got more complicated.
And the world of celebrity is not always as it seems.

And ebola. Well, no words about how sad that is.

I think Midge Ure contributed as much to Live Aid as Bob Geldoff but never asked for [or got] enough recognition for it. I agree about Bono [I've also castigated Sting on other threads, with all his houses abroad and jet setting lifestyle]. A lot of famous people contribute to charities and no one ever knows about it until you read an obituary about them. Peter Gabriel does a lot of good work, I believe.

And I will NOT go down the road of Bob's criticism of Adele's child-rearing methods.

But carry on putting the boot in. It's the "clever" thing to do these days isn't it?

I think it was Bob 'putting the boot in' to Adele that annoyed me actually, jingls.

There must be thousands of people who pay their taxes and quietly give without shouting from the rooftops about it.
If it raises money and awareness amongst young people who may never watch the news or Panorama then I will agree, it is a good thing. However, I do think it is a too simplistic answer to a very complex problem at the same time as shouting 'look at me, how great am I doing this and how f***ing useless are the rest of you'.

As though any of them, of whatever religion, will care about whether it's Christmas or not if they and their families are starving to death, or dying of ebola.

I think that point really came home to me when I actually watched the video of this year's effort. I was probably too young and naive the first time round.

I'm in two minds about this.

I saw an interview, I think it was on Sky News or BBC, can't remember which. They were interviewing John Hilary, Executive Director for War on Want, he was scathing against the band aid record and Geldoff. He made some valid points but I thought he would have been all for it.

I think I find the likes Geldoff and Bono et al the problem, I find them patronising egotists who it's said are tax avoiders ( don't know the truth). They preach and give the impression they are saints but they can really irritate me.

The other side of me thinks, Oh that's a good thing surely nobody could be upset by getting money for a good cause, well done all of you involved.

I think I will be gracious and say it is a positive, good way of fund raising.

Well done Adele for quietly giving.

I do find (and found) that song as crass and embarrassing this time round as I did last. There are millions of Christians in Africa and many of them are Orthodox Christians. So no, they don't know it is Christmas on 25th December, they will celebrate it on 7th January if they are able to.

I think he's got a very good heart. He is the only one I have heard to mention one of the most awful things about Ebola - the fact that no one can hold, stroke, comfort the dying. Not even the mothers of very small children.
