I am traumatised and embarrassed!

This morning, i went to our new, huge Sainsburys with DGS2,aged two and a half! Traumatising enough but, while I was packing at the till, I remarked to the cashier that my nylon shopping bags needed a wash as they were really smelly. As I shook the last one out to put the fruit and veg in, out fell a (dead) baby mouse! blush

kitty how cringeworthy! Poor you, but with a bit of luck as its a large shop you may not meet the same cashier next time. Mice are everywhere right now, when we drove to B&Q the other day one was clinging to the grille that stops the leaves getting in the car. Needless to say, as we were travelling at 50 mph it didn't stay long!

granjura Thu 02-Oct-14 17:35:32

Argghh couldn't you have stopped and let the poor thing down gently?

There was one in the back today, so put a pan over the top, got a piece of cardboard from recycling box to lift the lot and walked her up the back path about 250m and gently let her off- probably on her way back now ;)

A few years ago I called the washing machine engineer as ours had stopped working. He pulled it out from the cabinets and, teeth clamped around the wire, was an electrocuted rat.
I was so ashamed that we had rodents in the kitchen, probably brought in through the cat flap.
He said not to worry,he had a call out to the Queen Mother's kitchen where she had a big mouse problem. (I don't know which residence!)

Lona she said she was rummaging around at the back for her winter knickers! I thought that was funny enough!

I prefer my rats electrocuted. There is one living under my greenhouse, all the tomatoes have to be practically bleached before I will eat them!

jamside - oh dear, I was wondering what the smell in my car was, it smelt familiar. I bet a mouse is living in it somewhere.

I really want to know if kitty will ever return to the store? Never mind, it's nearly bobblehat season. Or you could cut and dye your hair and wear dark glasses?

Whilst trying to sell our house, many years ago, I showed a couple into our dining room only to find a headless rabbit under a chair. Present from our Burmese cat. I managed to park myself in front of it and don't know to this day whether they saw it. We did sell the house eventually but not to that couple!

Know I shouldn`t laugh but it is a great story and will go down in history in Sainsbury`s staff magazine no doubt. Hope you are no longer traumatised kitty and you will have to gird your loins next time you need to shop in Sainsburys smile

My son found an electrocuted rat which killed itself in his CH boiler.
They have they two cats and get a lot of stinking corpses brought in.

Saying that his house is pretty mucky at the best of time.

I, too, was showing prospective buyers around our house, and as we reached the landing I noticed our poodle had left a present on the floor. I bent down picked it up and put it in my pocket! Yuck! Can't remember if I shook hands with them on saying goodbye!

This thread is so funny! It could happen to any of us, kitty.

joanna I got that cartoon image of a frazzled rat with its hair stood on end and legs spread at each corner. grin

My friend always checks under her chairs before she sits down, as next door's cat leaves dead frogs, voles and mice in her sitting room, then toddles off to look for more.

Tegan very similar happened to me with a pair of knickers.
I called with a friend for coffee. We were seated and chatting for about a half hour when she asked me - what was that hanging out of the bottom of my jean's leg.
Yep, yesterday's knickers.

Sorry, but had to laugh. Glad it wasn't me though. Years ago a friend of mine rushed out in the snow to take her daughters to school. When she got home she was wondering why her 'wellies' felt a little small. As she took off her right boot and turned it upside down ...a dead mouse fell out. I heard her shriek from down the road !!!

Anne58 Thu 02-Oct-14 19:01:27

Oh Kitty sorry to laugh, but that has made my evening!

(As you all know I have had what might be deemed more than my fair share of embarrassing incidents, involving underwear, postmen, wheelie bins, funerals..............)

Not quite the same thing but many years ago my kittens used to remove stray items from the airing rack in the utility room. A number of friends were visiting when who should come trotting into the room but Dylan and Pepsi side by side, each holding one end of a black lace suspender belt in their mouths?

Crafting Thu 02-Oct-14 19:21:52

Kittylester grin made me laugh.
Coolgran65 you and I are kindred spirits. Say no more!!!!grin grin

tiggypiro Thu 02-Oct-14 19:35:15

Isn't it good to have a laugh - thanks Kitty for the opportunity !

Deedaa Thu 02-Oct-14 21:32:38

Oh kitty that's the funniest thing I've read for ages grin

I've done yesterday's knickers more than once - and I've learned to be very careful about putting slippers on because you never know what the little darlings have dropped in them.

Faye Thu 02-Oct-14 22:08:24

I hope you didn't tell the cashier your name kitty, she wouldn't have believed you. grin

Deedaa Fri 03-Oct-14 21:45:28

DD tells me she has often had one of yesterday's socks appear from the leg of her jeans, but yesterday's knickers are so wonderfully sordid grin

It was only when the dentist reclined the chair in his surgery that I noticed I had one blue shoe and one green shoe on. I had spent the morning at work in them and no-one had noticed.

harrigran Sat 04-Oct-14 00:05:44

Never taken a mouse to the supermarket but we did take a bird of prey to DDs. Last year we drove to Brussels and when she came out to greet us she turned slightly green, on inspection there was a very large bird with wings spread wide on the front grill.

When my daughter finished university she had a temporary job and after work went for a drink with several young people from the office. She had taken a pair of jeans and changed in the ladies loo at the pub. Yes, yesterdays knickers emerged from the bottom of the jeans as she walked to the table. She tried to kick them away from her but one of the young men spotted them and displayed them on top of a beer bottle!

granjura Sat 04-Oct-14 10:33:45

One of my friends went to work wearing a ST pad at the end of her period, with black trousers and skimpy pants. When she went to change it at lunchtime- it had gone??? She never found out where. Now THAT would be embarrassing!!! She felt sick for days.

sherish Sat 04-Oct-14 10:40:13

granjura, that reminds me of my friend who is a sales executive. She was at a clients and opened her briefcase when three Tampax rolled out onto the desk! She keeps them in a small make up bag now.

Ive had a bad week with a mouse, on Monday having taken one of my darling cats to the vets. I was so worried that she has something serious wrong with her, she streaked past me in pursuit of a mouse in my kitchen, followed closely by one of my other cats, they collided and started to scrap while the mouse just hopped into the hole in the skirting board. My other cat , a huge male ran off and jumped onto the piano trembling in fear.
At least my cat is not showing any symptoms of illness and has perked up as she now lies all day in front of the mousehole. Ive set traps but I now don't know if one of them has caught it or its escaped. Not a very bright mouse to move into a house of 3 cats.

Some good stories here - almost rivalling phoenix's underwear crises. grin
