Whoops. What did I do?? Never mind.
Good Morning Wednesday 29th July 2026
Young people ‘expected’ to engage with government's new work support plans.
Hello and a warm welcome to you lovely lot. I'm about to brew a fresh pot of tea and there are plenty of goodies for us to munch on...
Whoops. What did I do?? Never mind.
Thanks for the thoughts Nellie and Crafting.
I am off to see my daughter in Oxford (15 miles) today!
I thought I had posted on here earlier today.
Thanks for all the congrats for the new expected DGC. When I snuck onto GN in early 2012 I had just been told DD was expecting. I remember feeling a bit of a fraud as I was not yet a proper gran.
I also thought that you Grans would be blase about an announcement of a new GC on the way and did not mention it until DGs arrived when I posted on a "What I did today thread".
I was overwhelmed by the congratulations and good wishes , I had never expected that. I now know better.
Many on GN seem to get excited by a new GC on the way and when someone announces that a mum is in labour many of us are virtually pacing the floor with the relatives.
You are a lovely lot.
I am off to babysit the wee boy on Monday and get my picture of the new addition in utero.
My goodness it's been busy here today with all the visiting Mumsnetters. What a relief to get back into the kitchen and relax a bit. Anyone fancy joining me for a glass of
and a chance to unwind?
Lorna I am sorry to hear about your son. I do hope the sleep mask helps. Good news about your daughters job. Sounds as though it could be just the thing for her. Hope she enjoys it.
Alie nice to hear from you again. Hope you are ok. The last couple of months before birth can be so tiring it's not surprising your DD is a bit stressed but hopefully they will be able to turn the baby round on Wednesday. What a shame about your singing group. Can you join in again after they have finished Delilah? I am sure they would understand if you explained. Have a (hug) and some
to cheer you up.
Soop what lovely paintings. Congratulations on your sale.
Night night all. Hope you all sleep well
soop and Agus thank you for your kind wishes, it helps so much to be in this kitchen amongst friends
Sorry not to get back sooner soop. I was out with DD and both GDs. Since moving into her new house where her friends and GDs friends are in the same area, DD has decided to have a hallow'een party so we had a trip to Sainsbury's for outfits and decorations for the house. Different days, I remember when hallow'een lasted for a few hours for one night! However the girls are very excited about it all.
I love watercolours and your work is very good. My favourite is the first one as I also like old bridges. Lovely painting soop
I sincerely hope the sleep mask stops any further deterioration for your DS Lona. He will be in my thoughts along with strong vibes for a successful trial. Also hope your DD getting her teeth into a new job gives her the confidence to deal with the negativity going on in her life at the moment. All we can do is be there and support them with our love as they ride out the storm. My very best wishes to her.
Allie'there is still time for baby to turn and fingers crossed for your DD that this is what will happen. I am sure though she will be well monitored between now and her due date
You already know my feelings re Delilah from the other thread!
I really enjoyed our visitors from Mumsnet but I've got to say, thank goodness I am passed that constantly on the go with a young family stage. Forgotten how exhausting it was.
Alie - it's a worrying time for you, but they have found out about the breech in good time to do something about it. I don't blame your DD for being a bit tetchy. That last month is just too long! Son't worry about Delilah. I am sure that if you explain your aversion to it to a few people they will understand. It's a pity that a good tune for group performance should have such an unpleasant theme.
Oo-er, Galen ! Yes, I just stayed as calm as possible too!
soop many thanks. you always hit the right place!
I will try not to worry, and I won't go to the singing, but will try to explain to some people who are also in my U3A art group.
soop you have so much compassion for every one else when you have worries of your own.Thank you. I would really love to be able to have a few days with my DD but taking DH would be hard work for me and I can't leave him for more than a few hours now so I must rely on lots of phone calls and texts from her but she is coming up at half term when the GC are on holiday.
I was threatened by a patient with a very large carving knife saying 'I am Jesus Christ and I'm going to save the world. Sit there and listen to me'
Guess what:- I did .
Fortunately the mental welfare officer had been called, so when he arrived , the patient was sectioned and committed.
I never argue with someone with a knife in their hand.
Alie; I think you should explain to your singing group about why you hate the song so much; it now makes more sense to me why you feel the way you do. In my channel hopping mode I keep finding programmes about women in labour [there are so many of them these days on all channels; I always end up crying at the end]. What is reassuring with them is seeing how the hospitals deal with problems when they occur. Perhaps better to start off knowing there's a problem than for it to only become apparent later on. What does happen in most of the programmes is that all the well thought out birthing plans the mothers to be had went straight out of the window on the day. My favourite programme is 'Don't drop the baby'; I don't know what channel it's on.
AlieO I've missed you. I've often wondered what's been happening in your life. Your daughter is bound to be feeling stressed. The final month of pregnancy seems endless and it's okay to get tearful at times. The midwife will do her best to get baby into the right position. Deep breath [you, that is] and think how jolly Christmas will be with a wee one on the scene. Will you be able to visit easily? I'm not sure where your daughter lives.
As for Delilah...I loathe the song. Best that you steer clear of the singing group on this occasion. Memories of the fearful kind can remain locked away for yonks [as with my encounter with a man who tried to grab me and take me into a spinney when I was just a child]...I still have nightmares from time to time and yell for HELP!
As for the felt roof on the shed, I hope that you can get it fixed before the rainy season.
annsixty I sympathise with you regarding your dear daughter's separation. It's at such times that we Mums want to be of some real, hands-on comfort. Is it possible for you to pay her a brief visit? To share a little time together would do both of you a lot of good.
Gaga please visit us as often as you like. You are one of us lot
Lona I'm happy with my share of the sale. The painting was mounted but not framed. The purchaser asked the gallery to frame it and went away feeling very satisfied.
I'm sorry, I must have missed the news of your son's diabetes. I'm delighted to hear that he is to be given the opportunity of testing the sleep mask. Please keep us updated. Your daughter's confidence will be boosted no end now that she has a job that she enjoys. Good for her. I hope that she goes from strength to strength.
It is time for me to feed a certain big black cat.
He is giving me the eye...he's also licking his lips...
Goodnight to all the Kitcheners. I shall pop in to catch up with you in the morning. x
Thanks janeainsworth...I think it has helped to speak about things here. it usually does, but i have been bottling then up which is a habit of mine.....
alie I don't often pop in here but just saw your post. New grandchildren arriving are such a worry aren't they - but if your DD is due at the beginning of November, there's time for the baby to turn around I think, isn't there?
Fingers crossed for you anyway.
As regards Delilah, yes I think it's an awful song too (never liked Tom Jones either) - can you just say in a dignified way you'll give that one a miss and sit it out? That might make the organisers think.
Hello folks.
I wanna creep in again. I have been lurking and reading but things got a bit on top of me.
Worrying about my daughter who is due to be induced at the beginning of November and has now been told the baby is a breech, as if she didn't have enough already to worry her........they are going to try and turn the baby round on Wednesday. She's very tired and irritable which I think is a change in her hormones recently....getting ready.
We will cope, and she has support there, but it's getting tense.
My own problem is that my singing group, which I have loved, is going to sing 'Delilah'. I detest it. I won't sing about a woman getting knifed!
And I am upset today since I remembered why this seems so personal: When I worked for Women's Aid I was once threatened by someone's husband with a Stanley knife. I managed to get him to put it away, but it was a very scary ten minutes, and I seem to have made myself forget the episode completely, until today. I thought myself that I was over-reacting, but I wasn't. So I can't go to the singing group, which I am sad about.
Also the roof felt has been blown off my shed!
It certainly doesn't!!
annsixty They don't want to worry us! It's kind but it doesn't work does it?
Lona, apologies for not highlighting your name but I am using my new iPad and I get a bit lost. I am sorry to hear about your son I must have missed that if you have posted about it before. Good news about DD though, my own DD is now in about 5weeks of her separation from SiL and seems to be coping but at 350 miles away I may be getting the side she want's me to hear. D's are good at that I find.
soop I have just had a look at your beautiful watercolours and happened to spot the name of the artist thereon (!!) What a very odd thing!
The name is the same as one of my very dear friends who lives in Bedfordshire. Gave me quite a shock until I realised it wasn't her but you!
It is so nice to escape from the madding crowd of MNs who seem to have invaded GN whilst their own MN is mended or whatever Tech are doing to it. It just doesn't feel the same so am lurking in the peace of the kitchen until they've gone.
Cup of tea anyone?
Congratulations Nellie that's really happy news
soop Every little helps! I hope you got a good price for your painting
I have a couple of nuggets of good news (for a change).
My son, who is losing his sight due to diabetes, is going to be using a sleep mask which is being trialled, which should help to stop his eyesight deteriorating.
My dd, who has had, and still has, so much bad stuff in her life at the moment, has a new job which she loves and is very good at, according to her trainer!
I am feeling slightly less stressed!
Love to Bella
Agus I have uploaded a few paintings from my "rainbow period"...MacS and I used to make greetings cards from this range, and at one time, long ago, we sold lots in local shops. The price of good quality paper and inks has risen alarmingly. It was good fun whilst it lasted.
Agus I believe that a very long way into my album are a few examples of my paintings. It's been ages since I last checked. I shall attempt to find a pic of the painting that I sold. Bear with me. If I can find it...
Well done selling your painting soop. I didn't know you did landscapes too. Is there any way we can see your work online?
If you could see me now...
I'm doing a slow jive and beaming from ear to ear. Grannyknot
Grannyknot What a darling you are. I lurve Elvis and shall hasten to listen to the song that you have selected for us lot.
