I toyed with putting this under Education but I think it's more of a social thing.
One of the state primary schools in my area has recently become an academy. The catchment area is far from affluent. The uniform used to consist of a jumper or sweatshirt in school colour, white T-shirt and grey trousers or skirt. All of which could be purchased from local supermarkets for a few pounds.
This year the uniform has been changed to blazer, white shirt, tie and tartan type skirt for girls and grey trousers for boys. These have to be bought at specialist shops or through school. I approve of uniforms but not this much at this age. They grow so fast and if you have 2-3 children at the school it must be a real struggle.
