Is it too early to put the t.v. on?

I am an absolute tele addict.

I don't concentrate if I listen to the radio and I don't like being unable to see a persons expression for example if a debate is going on, as on here you can easily misjudge what a person actually means.

I enjoy the 24 hour news coverage and watching parliament is an eye opener at times. It can be very interesting to hear and see what is happening first hand and in real time as things move so fast some days.

To be fair health issues give me the time to be sat on my backside. I would prefer to be out and about but the tele is a good source of amusement and of course a little bit of company in an odd way.

I probably do watch too much.

Not snobbery on my part I just love the peace and quiet. The TV is on most evenings and over the weekends when OH watches his football.
If I want to see what's happening in the world I watch Sky News headlines on my iPad and then switch off. Need to use this iPad less though.

Our TV goes on at 1.15pm for Home and Away, followed by Neighbours, then it goes off. At 6.30pm I record Eggheads to watch with a cuppa later on. Apart from Eastenders, I hardly watch anything else, there`s rarely anything that I fancy. It annoys me when hubby has the TV on all night in his bedroom, just for the sake of having it on. Things change very slightly at the weekend, then the TV only goes on in the daytime if hubby wants sporting events on.
I don`t feel guilty about reading in the mornings, when I get my breakfast ready, I then get comfy on the settee with my book for at least half an hour, lovely.

CbA to watch during the day. Have to have it on at 6pm for the news.

Does anyone time their day by what's on TV? DS often asks "Can we have dinner now that Pointless is finished!

Only watch the odd CBeebies during the day. I sit down with a cup of coffee and turn it on for the GC. Trouble is I then find I'm the only one watching The Tweenies and they're all playing out in the garden

I do listen to the radio but find myself channel hopping due to the inane chatting or overlong adverts between records.

My dogs do - I will often play with the even if I'm watching tv but the minute the Coronation Street theme tune starts playing, they go and lie down, they know time for play is over for a while

I think everyone should watch tv when they like, we spend enough on our appliances and its no ones business when we watch, however what really annoys me is some people like my mother switch on at 6am and its still on at midnight regardless if they are in the room or not.
I don't understand that. I often have kids tv for DGD but when we go into the kitchen to have our meal I switch off and if necessary back on later.
When i'm alone tv stays off until I want to watch a programme then I put it on, then when its finished it goes off again. We wouldn't leave our vacuums or washers running all day so I switch off thinking of the expense.
Anyone else compulsive viewers who never switch off

A good argument for daytime TV today: High Society on Channel 5! Much as I enjoy the crisp repartee of The Philadelphia Story (Hepburn, Stewart, Grant), I just adore this musical version - so many great numbers like 'Swell Party' with Sinatra and Crosby duetting. Bing singing 'True Love' to the very beautiful Grace Kelly. To crown it all, the wonderful Louis Armstrong.

Yes, unfortunately, rosesarered - this morning it was 2.30am and I feel positively shattered now! Ah well ...

I find more and more I watch specific programs on a catch up channel either iplayer or one of the others on smart tv. OH is a devil for putting on the tv and then using his ipad to do 'stuff'.

I much prefer to watch things when I want rather than when they are on. I don't have the tv on during the day if OH is at work it usually goes on when he comes in.

what has anyone got against watching tv during the day, I would love to but i'm at work. is there any rules against this. years ago we had no daytime tv so had no choice but now its different.
jingl mentioned snobbery, ive never heard of snobbery relating to tv, as ive said before they are expensive so why not watch them when we will. I just don't like the idea of mine being switched on when im not watching it, I envy those who can watch all day.
I know some people who sit all day in their pj's and do nothing, something again I envy. Many people have a "nothing day", I would love to do this.
A girl I knew always spend the days between xmas and new year in her pj's doing nothing apart from watching tv, she said she'd done enough getting prepared for xmas and now the family could get on with it, they lived off the remains of their turkey and convenience food until after the new year when they went back to work.

I have nothing against anyone watching the bo all day and all night too if they want. Their business. Nobody else's.

Jingl, if that is in reply to my post then I didn't accuse you of saying it was snobbery, I just said you'd mentioned 'snobbery' so get your facts straight.
Many other posters mentioned 'snobbery' and as Ive said before TVs are so expensive why not watch them when we like, I just don't understand why some people are saying almost with pride they don't put it on till after 6 etc.
By the way what does FFS mean, looked it up and its not on the list of abbreviations.

I agree that there are some people who are terribly precious about tv-watching, claiming they only ever view documentaries or serious news programmes.

Each to their own, but I like a bit of soap or comedy-based entertainment as well!

Do people boast that they don't watch daytime tv. I'm at work but the best stuff is on in the daytime so I record it and watch it at night or heaven forbid at 9am when all paragons of virtue such as GNetters are busy doing housework. lol, then boasting how virtuous they are.
I think the virtuous ones with their pride are maybe telling porkies.

Anyway can anyone tell me what else there is to do at 9am on a morning if you live alone and don't go to work till lunchtime, apart from reading or TV. Love to hear ideas.
