A colleague of mine many years ago, in her 60s, had a double mastectomy and used to strip down to the waist when she worked in her garden! The garden wasn't open to public view, but it did make me wonder... but subsequently I thought why the heck not. If she wants to and she can.

I don't mind who removes what clothing in hot weather!

I dislike seeing anyone out and about not wearing a top of some description. I don't care what they look like, young or old, slim or fat. I like people to be properly dressed in town. In their own gardens or at the seaside - fine. Or in parks. But in places where you shop and eat and on transport - keep your clothes on, please.

And you know what - I really would like to make it illegal. Because if we are out for the day, I find that I head for places that advertise no admission unless wearing a shirt and shoes.

I'd just like to report that DH changed when we went to town this afternoon as he deemed it inappropriate to go shopping in shorts.

My DD once asked (loudly!), when viewing an enormous lady approaching, "Why has that lady got no knees?"

Have to say I just flicked over to the tennis from the football as Novak was changing his top; now he can walk about anywhere anytime shirtless imo . Cor!!

I think Mr P must be a bit repressed. In all the 13 years we've been together, he has never gone outside topless, not even when cutting the grass in the garden! In addition he has never even worn one of those singlet/vest things, always a T shirt, ordinary shirt or polo shirt.

Cancel the opening sentence, just been thinking about other things and Mr P is definitely repressed.

I think there's something genetic in this whipping off of the tops - perhaps going back to cave man days? Bless them - I must admit that the old George Melly song 'It must be jelly 'cause jam don't shake like that' comes to mind.

Phoenix quite right too, good on Mr P for dressing properly.Mr Roses wouldn't even go to Waitrose without 3 piece suit, formal shirt and cufflinks.

DBH is repressed too. He rarely takes his top off unless we are on a beach.

I agree, roses and janerowena, although MrA might leave off the waistcoat if it was just Tesco...

.....and then walk round with their trousers at half mast, so that they do not so much strip to the waist as strip to just above the pubic hair.

I was running a pitch at an Antique Fair today and saw several men walking around bare chested. None of them had anything worth baring and, despite the weather, it seemed an inappropriate style for the opccasion.

Did anyone see the pictures of Paul McCartney on holiday in Ibiza in the press today? He was on the beach, granted, but oh dear me, he'd forgotten his bra. Not a pretty sight.

Maybe we all ought to go back to the Edwardian era at the beach and wear bathing suits over a certain age or plumpness. We could have Beach Police. After all, nightclubs refuse admission to people who offend their eyes and everyone just accepts it! Or segregated beaches. DBH&Son could be on the Fit Beach with all the fitness fanatics, I could be on the fatty beach with all the ice cream vans. I bet I would have a nicer time.

We went on holiday to India in the new year and OH actually took his socks off!

I work on the basis that if I don't like what I see in the mirror I keep it covered up except on the beach or in the shower. Unfortunately, as time goes by I can see myself adopting the burka.

Grannylin, that reminded me of a photo years ago of my BIL on a beach somewhere in swimming trunks.............and black socks!

Grumpa if you'd seen the sights I saw in town yesterday you'd laugh. I think it was the Mr Blobby tribute outing.

Only these were mainly Mrs Blobbys.

Why am I reminded of the chap who, years ago now, hoaxed everyone into believing his campaign to put pants on animals?

I am so glad Mr roses maintains standards. DH wears a panama hat in the summer as he burns easily and once in Waitrose wanted their free( to card holders) magazine. The cashier waved away his offer of money for it saying "That is perfectly all right sir, you look like a Waitrose customer"
