P.S I got mumps 3 weeks before my wedding!!! Both sides at the same time - looked horrendous. I'm surprised DH went through with it!

Before my Dad caught mumps from my sister (other sister and I didn't), I think my parents had considered another child. Didn't happen.

I am taking refuge in the kitchen again as the plasterer has arrived this evening instead of yesterday.
DD1 has just come in saying, "We thought you might like this." An icy glass of gin and tonic.

DH has had mumps 3 times. When DS had mumps MIL said that DH wouldn't catch it as he had it as a child. When he did catch it I just thought that she must have got mixed up as he had so many brothers and sisters. When DD2 had it the year after he caught it again. DD1 didn't get it either time.
DH has had shingles several times as well. The last attack despite having the vaccination last year.

Definitely mumps twice - as my DD can testify As she was forty the second time, she was most indignant and when she had to tell her friends!

I know it does, but occasionally it does happen. As it's the same virus I can't see any reason why it shouldn't.
They say you can't have mumps twice but again it does happen ( very rarely I admit)

Galen I have double checked on Patient.uk and it states that one cannot catch shingles from shingles.

Well, he was wrong. I had chickenpox as a child and when I started at the DSS I had to sit next to another doctor who had shingles!
I came out in them.

Galen, that is very interesting about the shingles; have had it twice myself and have been very wary about giving anyone chickenpox who had succumbed previously, but was not at all worried about catching shingles from DH earlier this year when he had it! Of course, I am not the right age to have the vaccination and neither is he.

I hope that MacS's results come through very soon and that things can be put right and he soon feels tickety-boo again. Gosh, that sounds old-fashioned.

Sorry, you're wrong. You can, and I did, contract shingles from somebody with shingles. I passed it to my children in the form of chickenpox. They then kindly have me mumps in exchange!

Eeek charley thanks for that, because there is a very pregnant DIL in the mix, so I shan't be visiting just in case.

Similarly, my daughter's fiance has not had chickenpox but she has already banned me from their house for this reason. I thought she was over-reacting (but of course would have complied).

Thanks Kitty. We did have a lovely evening - we rarely get time together on our own because of the children, so it was nice for us both to be able to relax and chat. GK I am aware where your shingles is situated and is covered but any member of your family who has not had chickenpox should not visit until the spots have crusted and dried/healed. You can contract chickenpox from shingles but you cannot get shingles from shingles.

GK, my niece is getting married in 4th July and my SIL was diagnosed with shingles a couple of weeks ago. She was prescribed anti-virals and is loads better. Hope the mgs calm down a bit but you are a woman - you'll cope!

Poor you, GK. Troubles 'come not single spies but in battalions'. I thought I'd get that in before Ariadne beat me to it! But seriously, you must be under so much pressure and that exacerbates the shingles, or so I have heard. I hope your GP gave you an anti-viral drug to mitigate the effects of this nasty infliction. You need to tell everyone that you are poorly and need TLC. You can't bear all the burdens, especially now. Meanwhile ((((hugs)))) and
