Shingles is not an all over rash, it runs down nerve lines,on either side but not across

I popped my head around the door last week and you were all chatting happily about Galen's trip and sloshing back champagne.

Dropped in today and - oh dear - poor, poor Mr Soop. It's not that long since you were both poorly, it must have knocked him for six. If he's not better today I agree with the others he shouldn't wait until Friday - especially if the appointment is a late one - in case the doctor wants to refer him back to the hospital. The Scottish system may be better than here - here Friday is not a good day for treatment as everything, except emergencies and in-patients, stops for the weekend.

(He couldn't have developed a whisky allergy - could he!)

soop I do hope there's been some improvement by now but if not please take some action despite Mac's protests.

Is there any change this morning, soop? Don't want to appear to be nagging, but maybe you do have to take this into your own hands? Phone surgery, ask if it's possible for you to speak to GP (hopefully they will allow this even though it's not about yourself), and explain how things have become worse. xx

Sent soop a text at ten to five yesterday. No reply is unusual but I have had no reply, not even a command to stop worrying [worried]

Keep us posted bags. I am sure she will be in touch with you as soon as she can. We are all very concerned about them both. I am just wondering if maybe she has taken him off to hospital?

So she did, nellie. That's something of a relief, but....
I have a mortal fear of being intrusive but I think that if there is no news (preferably good) I might phone when I get back from where I have to be today.

Bugger mortal fears! I rang. Gotta go soon but am pleased to report that MacSp is eating his breakfast. soop has not yet done her blister and rash inspection this morning. Apparently the doc said that the antibiotic could take 48 hours to kick in. This means they have to wait until this afternoon for that period to have passed. I'm slightly reassured by speaking to soop directly. Slightly.

Everyone keep sending get well vibes to a certain spot in Kintyre, please!

So no news was good news, in a way. By the end of today they will know whether the antibiotics are doing their bit, and can act accordingly.

It is very worrying, though.

Apolgies for coming to this thread a bit late. The rash looks awful . Strangely enough I was only thinking a couple of days ago about a rash I had at the time my youngest grandson was born [it was this time of year which is what made me think of it]. Just kept coming up in red lump after red lump. Never did find out what caused it [but it didn't make me feel ill in general]. Thought at the time it was a reaction to mozzie bites [even though I'd been bitten plenty of times before without such an extreme reaction]. And one of my doctors told me once about the bad reactions people get when they've been gardening and touched ivy. Do hope he's on the mend soon, though .

Well done bags - sounds slightly more positive. Lots of positive vibes on their way to Kintyre as requested.

That sounds a reasonably good sign.

Looking at all this concern expressed for Mr McS don't let anyone say that this "virtual world" of communication does not allow for any good relationships to be built up.

I have never met soop or more than a few posters who have been to our local meet ups, but you do get to know people on GN and become as concerned about their well being as you do with the friends you do actually meet.

With the exception of the few odd characters who come and go from time to time GN is full of good funny and caring people.

Wow! Goodness, gracious me and all and all...^You lot^ are unbelievably amazing.

Thank you, dear bags for today's telephone call. Thank you for last night's text. I did respond. It means so much to me and MacS that his Granspals truly care and wish him well.

He did eat a little breakfast. His appetite is extremely poor at the mo'. He does enjoy his meals when well. The bumps on his head and face have little dark centres...as do the crop on his torso, which a slightly redder and smaller. The purple lumpy bit at the base of the spine is still inflamed. The inflammation has spread under his buttocks so he's finding it uncomfortable to sit without a cushion. His waterworks are giving him jip. He's extremely tired and equally stubborn. He keeps stressing that he hasn't been taking the prescribed antibiotics for long enough etc. When he first visited his GP (last Friday) he said to return "next week" if things got worse. He was not prescribed any medication. When I frog-marched him into A&E he was just beginning to get a spot or two on his face and head...no other place. The spots/lumps started to multiply later that day. He came away with antibiotics and took the first that same evening. Hospital advised he should return to GP on the following day (Mon)...the spots were marching up and over his torso. He had a temperature. It hurt to wee and he felt awful. GP put him on a different broad-spectrum antibiotic and has sent wee sample to lab. He took the first new antibiotic late Monday afternoon. The spots and lumps continue to gather. Apart from his lower legs and arms he's evenly covered with them. They do not itch! He has an appointment for Friday morning. I'm keeping a close watch on him. He's asleep again. Man coming to fix the boiler.

Time is marching on. i know I am not a regular for the champagne etc, BUT I would get on to the GP as soon as possible, Friday appointment is too near the weekend, and if he needs more treatment that brings you to Monday.

You are entitled to a home visit and as himself is clearly very unwell, please ask very firmly for one , before they close for lunch. I would.

soop Imagine if only half of us lived nearer to you, you would need a massive kitchen to accommodate every one who came with and maybe a or 2, to wish a speedy recovery for your DH and support for you, I think I am very fortunate, even though I don't "pop in" all that much I do know if I needed it, you would be there for me

Poor Soop- thanks for the update, I kept looking to see if there was any news. I am truly sorry he has not let you take him to A&E again- personally I would have requested a home visit from GP really- whether he wanted one or not- or at least phoned them to say you are really concerned. But it is very hard if he really refuses. All the very best till Friday- looking forward to your news after the visit. Now, please call for a home visit if he is getting worse- please, don't wait till Friday.

OH used to get so cross about some patients requesting home visits for NOTHING - BUT equally upset that older patients would NOT ask for visits when there was definitely something wrong, and a visit was really required. Why not phone the surgery and ask to speak to his GP, describe the rash and how it has progressed, how unwell he is, and ask if he needs see TODAY and not wait till Friday. I truly feel for you.
