Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?

morethan2 Fri 03-Jun-16 05:49:00

I think I wake up just as you lovely lot are going to sleep. I've been up since around four...I'm lonely, Billy no mates with no one to moan too. Please don't let it rain I've got all three this weekend. Loves em but they can be hard work. My rib pain is getting better so that's good

chelseababy Fri 03-Jun-16 05:50:26

I've been awake since about 5. Hope you've all managed to get to sleep. It's not so bad waking early when it's light but it's cold this morning. I've just reheated my rice bag and brought a cup of tea back to bed. Listening to the radio for company.

morethan2 Fri 03-Jun-16 06:07:40

Morning chelsebaby enjoy you tea. It's not cold her but fairly miserable and grey here(bit like me really) I've got tea and yougurt and my iPad

harrigran Fri 03-Jun-16 10:17:17

I got nearly six hours sleep last night, apart from one glitch. I was just dozing off when DH shouted " Corbyn " and I am wide awake asking him what he is talking about " I said carbon " he tells me " and that is to Ben ". I am wondering if he was at a debate grin

rubylady Fri 03-Jun-16 23:30:06

Well, I'll see how tonight goes. That post confused me harrigran but then it doesn't take much. Had a lovely day getting festival stuff together with son. Embarrassed him in Tesco's as I was on the disability scooter thing and he was walking 10 paces behind! grin No, we had a great time. Off now to look at ebay and see if I can buy one so it makes my life that bit easier when out and about. smile

boheminan Sat 04-Jun-16 00:33:26

Good morning everyone! the day is just beginning - and I'm wide awake to welcome it.. Anyone else awake?moon

rubylady Sat 04-Jun-16 01:46:03

I'm still here. Looking on ebay for a mobility scooter but they all seem to be miles away! Morning boheminan, I hope you are well. X

Funny how the pain always kicks at 2.00 am. And the need to go to the loo which is not easy one handed!

NanKate Sat 04-Jun-16 07:00:02

How true Tessa

Since going on steroids my sleep patterns have changed and now I am wide awake at 5.00 am about an hour earlier than usual. So relieved I am retired otherwise I don't know how I would cope.

I am surrounded by tea, biscuit, newspaper, Hotter magazine, book and IPad. I will be zonked by 10.00 am hmm

How is the early morning Club today ?

rubylady Sun 05-Jun-16 00:36:52

Hi shipmates. dramatictessa Can you not get some slow release pain killers that will last 8 hours?

Feeling a bit tight on my throat and my chest tonight but then had a intense day with son. He wanted to discuss the EU and I didn't. So energy levels low now. Hopefully sleep earlier than normal. Going to see a friend who is terminal tomorrow, less than a few weeks to live. What do you say? The last time I spoke to my dad I didn't know it was to be the last time, so this is different. So much loss around, so many lovely men. Undeserving to go so young.

Indinana Sun 05-Jun-16 03:34:10

rubylady that's sad about your friend. Don't worry about what to say, they will know there is nothing. Just be there, hold their hand, talk about nothing, read something to them - poetry, the newspaper maybe. Tell them something funny that's happened in your life, even if it was years ago - try to bring a smile to their face. Good luck flowers

Well I woke up at 2.30 to go to the loo, nightie drenched with a night sweat, as was the bottom sheet, so changed nightie, laid clean towel over damp sheet, tried to go back to sleep but couldn't. Why have I started getting night sweats again at nearly 66? I had a hysterectomy 23 years ago, was on HRT for 4 years and then came off it. I thought all this night sweat business was well in the past, but it's recently been plaguing me confused

Judthepud2 Sun 05-Jun-16 06:03:08

Just checking in to say hello to anyone awake. Woke about 3 after about 2 hours sleep....and that was it! I have tried most of my tricks but nothing has worked. Some upsetting stuff on my mind. So tired but can't relax.

Birds have started singing so maybe they will ease me to sleep. Grandsons coming at 10 so no lie in for me. ?

NanKate Sun 05-Jun-16 06:59:24

Hope all you night birds got some sleep.

Rubylady so pleased you are spending time with your friend in their last days, what a good friend you are. Just be you and do all the things suggested by Indinana especially laughing about funny things from the past.

When you are next in a chemist have a word with the pharmacist and they will be able to suggest slow release tablets to help.

I thought it was only me who worried about my family all the time, especially at night. Even though friends say I shouldn't be so involved I can't help it. It's good to know I am part of the Worriers Club grin

morethan2 Sun 05-Jun-16 07:48:24

Perhaps we should have a worriers club dedicated thread NanKatewink here's my list.
Terminally ill DIL
Having the strength to look after three lively under 8's while she undergoes treatment
One now very neglected MiL who's unwell and unhappy in a residential home and moving towards the end of her life.
Stressful job with lots of changes coming
Messy house
Army son about to deploy
Mithering on about retirement, should I shouldn't I.
Pain under right rib and under shoulder blade ( slightly better now) less worried
and this really stupid niggle about one of my grandchildren who was closest to me choosing to spend time with other members of the family. I pretend it's fine to him and everyone else and I know I have to let go he's 15 f.f.s but it hurts and makes me feel like I'm a horrible jealous clingy person.
Worried about packing for my holiday ( booked before all this happened) will my spasmsy pain spoil my holiday. Will I miss my flight( I only started worrying about that a few years ago when we did)
Wishing I was clever and understood the debate about the E.U (I'm only mildly worried about that)
Should I make a conserted effort to stop getting fatter. I'll be standing on my nipples at this rate if I don't get it under control
Shall I spent £800 on dental work
Shall I just tear my hair out, take off my clothes and run round the block shouting
"oh f-ck it" angry sad envy I once had a normal life

morethan2 Sun 05-Jun-16 07:56:22

P.S although all of this is happening. My post is mostly tongue in cheek. It's my way of coping. So don't be afraid of saying somthing flippant or just pull yourself together missus.

Alea Sun 05-Jun-16 08:01:49

Oh poor you morethan2
If you were to number your worries, I would say dump items
4,5,7,10,11,12,13 for starters.
The dental work I can't comment on, if it makes you happier. The tragic situation with your DIL nobody can take away from you and you are doing a wonderful job with the little ones.
Your DGS's current attitude will be hurtful but 1) teenagers are so unpredictable, who is to say what he is thinking these days, and 2) he may feel awkward about the situation with your DIL (I am assuming not his mum) and being aware of the stress you are under perhaps even feel shut out?
Ripping your clothes off etc is probably not advisable as you really don't want the little men in white coats "coming to take you away, ha ha." flowers

NanKate Sun 05-Jun-16 08:03:27

Morethan I have laughed in places at your post because you have a wonderful descriptive way of talking/writing.

Having said that how dreadful about your DinL no words can express the sadness at her plight.

My 5 year old GS spoke to DH on the phone yesterday saying how excited he was at seeing him next weekend, I don't think I was mentioned sad . I haven't seen the boys for a couple of months as I have been ill. I am feeling desperate and want to hug them.

Please do spend the money on your teeth. I am part way through having an implant and I have had my teeth whitened and it is brilliant. It would be something for YOU.

Have a look on the thread about low sugar and carbs. I did about 3 weeks ago and I am following their advice about 80% of my eating and the weight us coming off quickly. I am not hungry at all and no counting of calories just good wholesome food.

Yes let's be the founder members of The Worrying and Stress Club.

harrigran Sun 05-Jun-16 11:01:41

Indinana, I think you should see GP, night sweats can be indication of other medical conditions.
I have slept better these last few days, DH has stopped shouting out in his sleep, perhaps he has stopped watching the referendum debates on TV.

morethan2 Mon 06-Jun-16 07:09:24

harrygran glad your sleeping better will you update us every now n again how it's all going. I ashamed to say on this thread but I slept from 11.30 till 6 this morning shh don't tell anyonewink

harrigran Mon 06-Jun-16 12:10:02

I got 8 hours sleep last night. I had been out during the afternoon and walked in the fresh air. I expect the sleep pattern to change again when the next chemo cycle starts on Wednesday. My feet get very sore and then all the skin peels off, not pleasant.
I am finding it difficult to get across to friends and family that I can go for a little walk but I am not up to socialising.

Auntieflo Mon 06-Jun-16 12:33:59

Harrigran, nice to hear that you had a good night's sleep. Best wishes to you for your next cycle of chemo, I hope all goes well. Take care of your poor feet, and try to let nearest and dearest know how exhausted you get.

Indinana Mon 06-Jun-16 12:43:14

harrigran I spoke to my doctor today when she rang with blood test results. Yes, she agreed night sweats can be an indicator of something else so she's told me to keep an eye on it for the next month, as it could well be just the very warm nights we're having at the moment. If it continues I'm to make an appointment. hmm. Trying not to let it worry me because that will make my current psoriasis flare up even worse shock.

Indinana Mon 06-Jun-16 12:44:55

Sorry, meant to add how pleased I was to read that you slept so well! I so understand how you feel about socialising - it can be exhausting can't it? flowers

harrigran Mon 06-Jun-16 22:47:28

I sat in the garden and got sunburnt today. It wasn't deliberate, I was having my coffee and my sister rang and she talked for an hour and twenty minutes. I now have very sore arms and will have to put some soothing cream on if I am to get any rest.

NanKate Tue 07-Jun-16 06:10:17

Hope you managed to sort out your sunburn Harrigran and get some sleep.

I had a really busy day yesterday and expected to sleep well, it didn't happen seem to have woken most hours. Anyway having a refreshing cuppa and catching up on my IPad now.

If I manage to get to WI this afternoon I will be asleep with all the ageing members grin
