Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?

tiredoldwoman Sun 10-Apr-16 02:45:06

Yes, I'm up! The grandchildren are here , they still love sleeping with me in my bed, but really, they're too big ! I've escaped down into the coolness and spaciousness of the livingroom but now I'm getting chilled - I'm away to squeeze back into that cosy packet ! Car boot sale then Museum String Quartet planned for later in the day !

Another sleepless night. Two spells of about one hour each... a good night would be a total of five hours. This is how it's been for the last 15 years so it's unlikely to change now.

8 for Sunday dinner today and I'm about to start prepping.
What I wouldn't give for a night's sleep.

Bad night, woke at 2am and could not get back to sleep. Beating myself up for denting our car yesterday. I need to break this or depression will set in.

TriciaF Sun 10-Apr-16 11:19:14

I know what you mean about being annoyed with yourself for car accidents etc - I wrote my car off 3 weeks ago and still wake at night regretting it. But no-one hurt TG - I've learnt a few lessons though. We've got a van as well.
Last night slept ok, 5 hours or so, but for some reason I never sleep much on Sunday night, so we'll see.

I did sleep quite well, up twice and it was freezing cold but drifted off again fairly quickly. I do sleep better if I don't have an afternoon nap but the exhaustion usually kicks in about 3pm and if I don't lie down I feel I will keel over.

TriciaF Mon 11-Apr-16 02:16:16

As I said - having tea and toast then try again.

pompa my OH would say to me it's only metal whenever I dented the car, it always made me feel better.

pompa Mon 11-Apr-16 07:58:10

It's not the physical damage, already got a quote to fix it. It's the stupidity that caused it.

Coolgran65 Mon 11-Apr-16 07:58:54

I agree with Nana..... Pompa it's only metal.
Downside, is it bad enough to need a repair......upside is you're not hurt..... I hope.
Tho you will hurt yourself if you keep berating yourself. Middle of the night is a dark time (pun not intended) and I hope this morning sees it in perspective.
We all do wee stupid things....otherwise we'd be robots.
And a robot couldn't do posts like yours that make me smile.

I've spent today convinced it's Sunday, it's very disorientating. Just had an antihistimine, so hopefully will sleep - until the novelty of taking them wears off, as it inevitably will. Now all I need is help to not wake at 5.05am every morning for a wee. Why does this happen? waking at exactly the same odd timehmm

harrigran Mon 11-Apr-16 22:32:21

I tend to go to the bathroom just as the birds are starting the dawn chorus, sometimes needs earplugs to get back off to sleep.

Marelli Mon 11-Apr-16 23:01:52

The cat puts up with OH's snoring, so why can't I?
I'm going to the spare room again... I need a sort of trolley to take everything, though - water, book, pillow (achy neck) phone charger, phone ( poorly sister-in-law). You'd think all the noise I make dragging all that across the hallway would wake him, but no.
The cat just yawns and re-settles herself.... moon

boheminan Fri 15-Apr-16 00:18:25

It seems the short spate of sleeping through the night has ended and here I am fully awake, with no chance of sleep in the foreseeable futuremoon

Anyone else awake?

Rosannie Fri 15-Apr-16 00:34:43

Yes I'm awake, delaying the bore of going to bed and wakefulness I have opened a can of Guinness (for medicinal purposes) and am watching a recording of Billy Conelly's journey across Àmerica

Nana3 Fri 15-Apr-16 00:35:19

Yes I'm awake I've had a busy day but napped at 6pm for half an hour. Couldn't help it I was so tired.
Had a couple of glasses of wine at book club this evening, that doesn't help either.

Nana3 Fri 15-Apr-16 00:38:51

I like the sound of your Guinness. rosannie , cheers.

boheminan Fri 15-Apr-16 00:41:41

Grrrr....don't know what I've done that's different tonight. I've kept to the same boring routine and feel exhausted, but can't switch brain offhmm. I've been advised by wise friends to try Valerian sleeping tablets. Anyone tried them?

Nana3 Fri 15-Apr-16 00:43:38

Yes ages ago, they didn't work for me.

rubylady Fri 15-Apr-16 00:43:50

I'm still up too, but last night managed to get back to sleep in my bed instead of the settee, so that was lovely. I had a sleep earlier, got up and asked my son if he was going into college today to which he informed me it was 8pm not 8am! I thougt we were on Friday. confused

Nana3 Fri 15-Apr-16 00:47:02

A friend told me she listens to the BBC world service so going to try that now.
Night ( hopefully).

harrigran Fri 15-Apr-16 00:47:24

Yes I am still here. It has been one of my off days, nausea and burning feet making walking very uncomfortable.
My friend visited this afternoon and I missed a little nap which usually keeps me going.

boheminan Fri 15-Apr-16 00:58:29

Hopefully missing your afternoon nap will mean you'll be able to sleep later harrigran smile. Nana3 some folk reckon the shipping forecast sends them to sleep (never thought of trying it myself, just think I'd go into a dream world as to what the places looked like)

rubylady Fri 15-Apr-16 04:17:32

Still up. Have palpitations so come back downstairs. Have my dad's finances now to deal with and to be honest, it's turning my stomach thinking it's not my money but it's not his now neither I suppose but it still makes me feel sick. It's all playing on my mind so the sooner it's done the better.

I've only ever dealt with my own money, apart from joint finances when married but that's different, this just feels wrong and as though it's snooping into my parent's business. I need to get a grip. He entrusted me to be his executor so I need to get on with it.

Nana3 Fri 15-Apr-16 09:37:12

ruby when I was in your position I waited a few weeks to deal with finances as I couldn't face it. I kept a record of every phone call in a special note pad and stuck to doing one call a day. I did it early in the day to get it over with. I prioritised the things that got done and I soon started to feel better and the worrying eventually stopped. Most companies had a team that dealt with bereavement which was good.

Nana3 Fri 15-Apr-16 09:39:04

Good luck with it all ruby flowers
