Can't sleep - won't sleep - anyone else awake?

chelseababy Thu 07-Apr-16 22:33:54

Sweet dreams everyone, if you do get to sleep! I'm in bed with Radio 5 on hoping I'll drift off soon...

Marmight Thu 07-Apr-16 22:41:40

Good to see this has been revived. I've been awake every night of the last week since the family left - exhausting isn't it. Have relented and taken a Panadol Nightpain tab tonight in the hope it will help knock me out. If not, I'll see you later ... ??

Marelli Thu 07-Apr-16 22:47:29

And I'm lying here waiting for the snoring to start..(not mine)!
2 paracetamols (taken) may help me stay here and not have to trudge through to spare room.

boheminan Thu 07-Apr-16 23:12:32

What a nightmare Marelli, sleeping with a snorer is pretty soul destroying. I tried it for a while but ended up sleeping in a separate bedroom.

I've been reading and playing Scrabble for the last few hours and have a hunch I won't be getting much sleep again tonight sadmoon. If anyone fancies a late night game of Scrabble on Facebook, please PM me and we can get the ball rolling.

Didn't the GP give you anything for the pain ann hope you sleep better tonight.

I am still up but DH is locking up and indicating that he is ready for bed so perhaps I will try and settle down.

I've had a sore throat and difficulty swallowing for a month now and it always feels worse at night - probably because there are fewer distractions. Doctor sent a swab off today, so hopefully we'll get to the bottom of what's causing it soon. It's causing a bit of earache too and that's the only pain that makes a baby out of me - earache is my very first memory as a child when I was just two years old. My lovely lodger gave me some Panadol that I'm about to take in hopes of getting some sleep. G'night all.

Oh so sorry grannyactivist I too remember how miserable a ear ache was. Hope you can fall asleep and get a good nights rest. flowers

chelseababy Fri 08-Apr-16 04:24:40

Been awake a couple of hours now listening to radio 4 on iPlayer, mulling over my job which I now hate, and what to do about it. Partner working away at the moment, so long lonely night.

Envious Fri 08-Apr-16 04:38:12

I find it hard to sleep if OH is away. I also remember having trouble falling asleep if I dreaded work the next day. Hard to turn the brain off from thinking. I use to make up a story with me in it as a way to bore myself to sleep! It would work!

chelseababy Fri 08-Apr-16 04:44:23

No work till Monday thank goodness. Will put phone away and try again to nod off.

whitewave Fri 08-Apr-16 07:11:54

I've had a terrible night! Hope for something better tonight.

Sounds daft but the animal welfare Bill uturn put my mind into overdrive

Nana3 Fri 08-Apr-16 07:26:09

Managed about 5 hours, not bad at all. Yes whitewave good news about the animal welfare bill. Who dreams up these ideas that most of us know are totally stupid, it's a wonder we get any sleep at all.

Nelliemoser Fri 08-Apr-16 07:48:02

This is good thread I have spells of not sleeping well. but I am not too bad at present. I turned my OH into a spare bedroom years ago as he tends to sit up too long into the small hours and then came to bed disturbing me and freezing cold.

One thing I did find helpful was that if I did wake up in the early hours and could not get back to sleep was to stop trying and get out of bed to go and sit elsewhere with a warm drink and read or such until I felt sleepy again. I found that more helpful than lying in bed feeling dreadful because I could not sleep.

Marelli Fri 08-Apr-16 08:19:01

I slept. Instead of reading until late, I switched the light off earlier and actually went to sleep - earplugs well jammed in. I do enjoy my bedtime reading more than at any other time of the day, though...... hmm

Marmight Fri 08-Apr-16 09:17:35

That's good Marelli. I turned the light off at 11, woke briefly at 6 and then again at 7.45 and feel so much better for it. Not so little Panadol blue pill obviously helped.

boheminan Fri 08-Apr-16 23:13:03

Girding my loins and getting ready for bed.....

Well, I'm putting my PJ's on anywaygrin. Check list: Drinking chocolate, guzzunder, antihistimine and a good book all at the ready - so here goes! Why does going to bed feel like such a challengehmm.

'Goodnight, although I may be back here anytime after 1.00am'moon

whitewave Fri 08-Apr-16 23:19:02

I tried to sleep but couldn't so gave up. Mind you I don't think a computer screen is conducive to sleep.

harrigran Fri 08-Apr-16 23:40:24

Haven't left the study yet and I am drinking ginger ale so will be up and down all night. At least the feet are cooler tonight.

boheminan Sat 09-Apr-16 23:58:48

One minute until tomorrow and hey, I'm wide awake, anyone else out there still not ready for bed?

harrigran Sun 10-Apr-16 00:20:37

Yes, I am still up. I will go and lie down because I didn't have an afternoon nap and I should sleep now.

boheminan Sun 10-Apr-16 00:25:43

I was just about to turn in for the night, but like most nights I feel apprehensive as to what the next few hours will bringsad. I hope you get some sleep harrigran. Had my drinking chocolate, so now on way upstairs, but the night is young and I don't really feel tired (I just feel as if I should do). Here goes...

jogginggirl Sun 10-Apr-16 00:44:27

Still awake here ... too much going on in my head to settle? Reading helps to block it all out ... now where's my Kindle...? Sweet dreams to all ... when you finally get there moon

Marelli Sun 10-Apr-16 01:09:49

I'm in the spare room. The book I have isn't doing much for me, but must not, not, not start browsing Facebook etc....find another book, Marelli........

rubylady Sun 10-Apr-16 02:12:09

I'm back up and freezing. Went to bed with bed socks, nightie and jumper but still freezing. So I'm back up, watchin Bullseye and talking to my friends on here. My DS went out to a concert and came back really grumpy and was about to kick off but I went upstairs. Thirsty, wheezing, hungry. I'll warm up, find some food and hopefully drift off on the settee.

Anyone still up? X
