Yes I was impressed. It would not have been as quick if I really needed the heat today but it was a lovely sunny day so it got fixed double quick!

I do live in a well serviced town and not in the middle of the country but I have to say I have always found British Gas very good with their repair service.

Last time, in mid December I rang them at 10:30 pm. They asked questions about the health of the household to see if we were priority.

The agreed time was between 8 and 1pm the next day. The guy then rang from his previous job to say he was about 20 mins away, he was a bit late as the motorway was congested. He had to spend quite a time cross testing which of two possible connected faulty parts it was. He fixed the problem, did a service and also serviced the gas fire.

I can recommend them.

I thought with British gas you paid a monthly service fee !

Well yes Nonu there is no such thing as a free Gas Fitter! You can buy their service contract without having them as suppliers.

Roughly , how much does that cost per month ?

It's just that I'm so manic about being cold.

We don't have central heating either Petra. We don't have mains gas and the alternatives are too expensive to run.

I'm in the same boat Petra...small village, no mains gas, 3 night storage heaters that take £4 off my leccy key at night, just to be almost cold again by the time I get home from work (even with the vents shut), so I don't bother!
Have a small halogen heater for if it's really cold (half hour warms the room up), lots of blankets, warm clothes, slippers and a hotwater bottle.
Managed so far, and very seldom get a cold...if I do have some sniffles, it's only for a day or two, and not severe.

Have to say, used to be in a centrally-heated house, but wouldn't go back to it...my health, and particularly my asthma, have been much better since I moved to this place...weird, but true!

I don't have any central heating either Petra I live in a large Victorian house it would be too expensive for me to ether have it put in or keep the place remotely warm I have a gas fire in each main room and thats it but I don't find it as bad as others do

Forgot to mention my BEST FRIEND hottie bottles in my bed. Double duvet in singe bed so I m in it like a sleeping bad and a hottie top and bottom as snug as a bug in a rug

Petra, we don`t have central heating because we can`t afford to have it put in. My sister told me to contact Help-Link, but they`re providing new boilers, and you already have to have a boiler which of course we don`t. We do have gas fires, but no heating in the bathroom, which is like the Arctic in winter, it`s murder having a bath!

We have a contract with British Gas to service the two fires, boiler, and hob. It isn't cheap, but it is a brilliant service, speedy and efficient responses, and all work guaranteed. We live in a 50's house, which is well insulated now, but we do need it heated. When we lived in a 3 story stone terrace, we just had gas fires in the two downstairs sitting rooms. The walls were so thick that we very rarely needed to put the temporary heater on in any of the bedrooms, the house held the heat.

number - #Meanderingabit - Visual stronger than verbal. Have you met that thing where the name of a colour is displayed, in a font which is not in the colour named? "Blue" printed in yellow, for instance? You are supposed to read the text out loud, and it changes to another word in another colour pretty rapidly. Most people start saying the colour they see, not the one named in the text.

I would put a link to an example of it, but I don't know what (verbal) clues to search for.
