Foul weather

It's really bad isn't it. I live in the Midlands and it is sheeting down.

Can't help but think of all those poor people who lost so much recently and of course over the years.

I am sure there will be major problems tonight.

On the plus side, went to Morrisons today and it was somewhat calm, considering the time of year. Keith in the village shop said that it had been unusually quiet there too, put it down to the awful weather making people reluctant to go out unless they had to.

Blowing a gale, and tiddling down here in Mid-Sussex! Me and the cats have called it quits, battened down the hatches, and are going to snuggle in/on the bed! Safe night to all!

Yes, bucketing down here too, and very windy, some will have snow on Thursday [not me I hope!]However, it has been mild for so long that it's only to be expected I suppose.Makes you value a nice cosy home doesn't it? Makes you go and pop the kettle on as well, have you any of those mince pies to share tanith?

I have come down to Exeter to look at the Xmas market outside the cathedral but I think it might have blown away earlier this evening, or got flooded out.

It is bucketing here in NW London. My cat took one look at the driving rain from the front door and decided she would stay in the warmth.

oh darn it I ate the last one earlier sorry, my grandson brought me a dozen he had made to impress his new girlfriend and they were excellent (I didn't eat them all I gave half to my daughter), instead of pastry tops they had a cinnamon crumble topping , never had them like that before but I just googled the recipe and intend on making some for next week.

Same here, Ariadne. I've already had to rescue the wheelie bins which were waltzing all over the patio.

The weather is horrendous here in the Hebrides, normally the bins are emptied first thing in the morning, most people put them out night time, we don't . Some bins are out and they are blowing all over the road, as there are no street lights its quite dangerous, the sheep on the road are bad enough.

Weather has been dreadful, GD1 went to bed but was nervous and GD2 would not settle at all. I put her to bed at 7.30 and she was still awake at 10pm, she kept calling to me and saying she was frightened of all the noises. I must say the house was shaking, it is on the top of a hill and is quite exposed. I have come away and left her mum to settle her and I have a bad back from sitting on the stairs so as to stay close and reassure her.

Blowing a gale and raining here (Scotland). The gusts sound quite frightening so I'm messing about on the computer to put off going to bed because I know it'll be hard to sleep with all that noise going on.

Where about in Scotland are you Posie? I always worry about being away from home in winter when so many things can go wrong with the house. Luckily my neighbour is in and out each day to check - I worry about the roof slates flying off down the road! . Keep safe everyone!
(I don't like to rub it in, but I am sitting in a cool breeze, 29 degrees, blue skies, no clouds and sun. Downside is the plague of mozzies - they are particularly partial to my northern european skin!)

Lulls and then big drawn out gusts here Gally. The wind in the trees at the back sounds like a train and the cat flap keeps clattering. The wind is blowing West to East, so it is not very cold and so far no rain, hail or snow. Hope things have quietened down by morning as DD1 is officiating at a funeral (graveside) in Glenfarg but thankfully has elected to travel in the hearse for once, so either they will all get there together or not, as the case may be.

Tipping down in Oxfordshire and the rain is rattling against the window. This autumn's gales have brought down several tiles. Come the spring we will need to get a roofer in.

As the house is old we have a clay peg tile roof and these tiles are prone to slippage. We need to get a roofer in to do repairs every three or dour years.

Update for Gally - bit wet, bit blustery today but nothing to write home about. Snow on the Ochils and also on the Lomond Hills this am, but then the sun came out and it melted away. No reports of damage on the news. Calm but cold tonight.

Thanks G123. It's hard to imagine from my immediate perspective! We have just had lunch and are draped over chairs trying to locate a cool draft. Rosellas are pecking away in the eucalyptus, there is a very fetching possum decorating the electricity wires outside the house (very dead it is too) and I daren't think about what is lurking under the house - Larry the blue tongued lizard hasn't been spotted recently.........

I still cannot get used to the idea that I can converse with someone in a different time and a different place. It is good to know that the sun is shining for you - make the most of it while you can. It is gey dreich here!

It is a miserable day today. The wind is blowing and the rain is pouring but the house is watrm, all the Christmas lights are on and we have lit the stove which is oozing heat into the room.

There is nothing nicer than being warm and cosy indoors when it is horrible out.

It was awful here in the Swiss mountains yesterday, but lovely, sunny and bright today. We really need more snow though

Not good in the North West, rain hitting the windows and may even be sleet, too dark to tell. Heating is turned up but it is still chilly and very windy outside.
