How has Gransnet changed you?

Yes, what are these virtual parties? Can anyone come or do you have to be invited? What do you wear and can you bring a friend? ?????

Just doing my usual check up to see what is next in Gransnet, it's such a compulsion to open my iPad and read the latest threads etc, thank you GNers for all your contributions and thoughts and advice and sometimes critical comments. I feel I have met so many interesting people since joining.
Let's keep it up and keep Geraldine & Co busy for a very long time .

I don't think GN has changed me, but I have developed a compulsion to check the laptop from time to time. If we are away from home for a few days I feel a bit deprived and always wonder what delights I have missed.

And I have finally got round to finding a cleaner to come and subdue all the cobwebs that I never quite get round to! She's a total treasure and I wish I had done it ages ago.

GN hasn't changed me very much, but it has got me thinking carefully about what I want to say instead of 'shooting from the hip' quite so much, it's got me writing stuff down more, once I've thought carefully of what I want to say. And I've 'met' some friendly and interesting people on here. It does make what DH calls "that thief of time" (my laptop) harder to ignore as it winks at me, calling me into a bed-office that will one day feature as a work of art somewhere (unless I do some housework soon).

I have only been a member since March when DD anounced she was pregnant.
Its very addictive. Like many gransnetters have said the housekeeping suffers!
What I have noticed is that there so much humour, kindness, support and wisdom out there from Gransnetters.
I do enjoy the sometimes quite robust debate, but I am afraid that I cannot always resist playing devils advocate and throw some controversial stuff into the thread. (Just don't mention the badgers!)
I enjoy the fun and laughter as well with a lot of very witty contributers.

What has it done for me?
My good friend of many years as just emigrated to be with her daughter leaving me rather short of someone to put the world to rights with.

I think Gransnet has helped me with that.

When I first retired my "world" suddenly shrank and I found that I missed the stimulus of work colleagues and had not yet found the equivalent stimilus of activites for the retired such as NADFAS, U3A and a similar organisation in Bedford which runs wonderful lectures in literature, art history, local history etc etc. I missed adult conversation adn was nit ready for the coffee morning round or golf! Then I discovered Gransnet and I have revelled int he opportunity it affords to read what you all say, to participate in the conversations that take off and from you and to add my tuppenceworth!! An added bonus has been to make new friends - both online and face to face. So my world has been vastly enriched!

'Thief of time'; oh I love that! It's a funny thing, time ['time is what stops everything happening at once' was something I read long ago] but nothing makes hours pass like seconds the way the internet does.

My visitors have just gone to bed!
I had next doors visitors in as well tonight.
They are off to see the 'big pit' in Wales tomorrow. Im working!
After standing all day preparing and cooking food, my ankle is painful I can't take weight on it! My guests had to clear the table!

crimson I love that 'time is what stops everything happening at once' - will tell DH that next time he says I'm with my thief of time. Sometimes I have a sense that time isn't chronological at all ...it is all happening at once! Which is why I need a pause button that can be applied at will for certain bits of my life so I can attend to others and then come back to whatever it is on pause!

jeni, hope your ankle has recovered a bit! I've recently discovered that resting my right foot on a rolled up sheepskin gilet at night helps. The heel doesn't like resting on the mattress is a normal way

Grannyknot: that Monday morning post gives us food for thought for a whole week. I'm sure I've heard that in some scientific programme (Horizon?) about time not being chronological. Poetry or physics - or maybe both?

I echo what everybody has said about meeting lovely, kind,sympathetic people on Gransnet and I have made many friends. I almost wish I lived back in the UK so I could meet more of them in person, but I feel as though I know them anyway.
My life is so solitary (not complaining, just a fact) that forums are my only contact with other English speakers and I really enjoy all of it. Even the misunderstandings!
