Mine is finally getting a knitted teddy bear to look reasonable. I am hopeless at faces on any toy I knit. These little teddies looked so easy, but the first two I made are currently starring in their own Horror Movie called "How to terrify a Child."

Talking to my DD on the phone. she is now feeling so much better after her difficult pregnancy and birth. Was her old happy self. Wonderful!
And our little (!) Violet is doing really well, too. 11pounds and 3ounces already!!

Getting 6 eggs from my 6 chickens today. I wasn't sure if they were all laying: now I know they are. There was a time when i despaired of them: I introduced 2 new point of lays and World War 3 commenced in my chicken run. Feathers flying, angry squawking, the two new ones hiding in a corner from the pecking, the older ones flapping around in a furious tizz and.........and no eggs for ages.

Now they are a cohesive little flock, and producing eggs so big that the egg carton won't close properly.

Mind you, they are spoiled rotten - they get their chicken pellets, plus lots of green weeds, bacon rind, any grubs or snails I find in the garden, apple peel, pumpkin seeds......

Joan - Before I left this afternoon to chase around, I put out a wooden bowl with a note to the Egg Lady saying that I would love to have 1 doz. if she could manage it.

Tucked in the shade by the back door was my bowl, full to the brim with pale blue duck eggs and speckled brown hen eggs. So pretty I took a photo!

Seeing the Malvern Hills on our way home from visits to 2 sons and families and spending the last week working very hard on 2nd son and wife's new house. All my nails are broken and my hands feel very dry but I worked longer and harder than I knew I could so now realise there is more life in me than I thought! I loved it but will spend tomorrow slobbing in the garden.

Really exciting Maniac and jeni - glad you enjoyed yourselves today.

Today is our middle daughter's hen do, organised by her best friend and chief bridesmaid. This afternoon all the attendees went to a recording studio as part of the experience. All three daughters have already posted photos on FB of them singing together, grinning their heads off.

We/they have had a trying few years with evasive pregnancies, unfinished pregnancies, unexpected pregnancies and a few hospital stays so to see them all so happy did me the power of good. smile

Today I spent half an hour watching a heron preening its feathers in the sunshine.

On Thursday I had collected DHs ashes and had to think where to scatter them. I decided to take a little at a time to each of the places where we used to walk when he was well. First one was the Gogar Burn where it has been landscaped to flow past the office blocks in Edinburgh Park. It widens into a pool fringed on one side with rushes, with a paved path down the other in front of the offices. The heron was at the edge of the rushes. It is very quiet there at the weekend. I took some photographs, which I shall try to upload

A bonus and a lovely peaceful scene.

Anagram Sat 26-May-12 18:30:27

It sounds idyllic, Elegran. smile

glassortwo Sat 26-May-12 18:33:04

elegran sound so peaceful, Heron are my favourite bird flowers

JessM Sat 26-May-12 18:37:15

Glad you enjoyed that quiet moment elegran.
We saw some herons too, in our local country park. They have raised 26 young this season and the rangers had set up an excellent scope trained on the nests (which about the size of dinner tables - a bunch of them in the top of some scots pines) and a "heron cam". We were a bit bemused by the signs saying "Heron Festival" but all became clear when we saw the baby herons. Quite different to the Woburn Oyster Festival up the road, where you eat the creatures in question smile
