Mine is finally getting a knitted teddy bear to look reasonable. I am hopeless at faces on any toy I knit. These little teddies looked so easy, but the first two I made are currently starring in their own Horror Movie called "How to terrify a Child."

I have had a text from DIL to say that their sea-crossing was the calmest ever, with two children to look after and normally very seasick, this is good news. I then got a text to say they had arrived at their destination safely. I am really very blessed to have a DIL who keeps me in the loop, and stops me worrying.

I have just got back from a very long, very steep walk up to the crest of the ski slopes. I hadn't been able to take my usual walks for two weeks because I had my sister with me and I was really missing the exercise. The sign at the steepest bit at the start said it should take 35mins and I did it in 28 mins. My heart was beating a bit faster than normal but it soon slowed down after I got to the top. I then walked for another two hours in the sunshine, trying to count all the different kinds of wild flowers - I will have to look up some of them which are specific to this area.
When I got back, I found Private Eye and The Thread in my mail box! Now to sit out on the balcony and have a good read!

I am envious of those who have met up. I live in central London, and I don't think there are any others. however if anyone has any time here I would love to meet. I am coming to Glasgow in middle of August, maybe I could meet up with others then? meanwhile Happy crown [fla]

flag flag and crown crown

Here's too an enjoyable four days of celebrations and patriotism and flag waving in general

Thanks for recommendation, when. Have emailed it to my son as well. I hope he has some in for next weekend.

Talking of wine, has anyone tried the Aldi Toro Loco Tempranillo that was in a few papers last week? It's £3.59 and was awarded a silver in a competition which likened it to the quality of Barolo or a good Rioja that would cost around £30. We tried it at the weekend and it's really nice. They had plenty in stock, so will look for some more when I go shopping.

Who needs to win the lottery, I have just had an e-mail from Tesco informing me that I have a clubcard voucher that I had forgotten about and had not used and it is due to expire at the end of June. The voucher is for £10 so tomorrow I will be buying a few wine and cupcake .
It doesn't take much to please me ! sunshine

We had a good old natter, when, and time flew in so quickly! Please, Annobel, nanaej, and anyone who is able to, let us know when you're coming this way? It really would be so nice to meet up. smile

whenim64 Thu 31-May-12 21:51:36

Oh, how fantastic that you all met up. I bet our ears were burning! Did you sort us all out green? What great fun. I'm looking forward to meeting up with a couple of Gransnetters next month. Haven't we had some nice times in the last year? sunshine smile

...the fence that someone left in my front garden this morning [I did ask them to bring it round for me] DIDN'T fall on my car when the wind blew it over. There was a rusty hinge that would have caused a huge scratch down the bonnet confused.....

nanaej Thu 31-May-12 21:36:26

Aww Thanks Edinburgh GNs smile I have a friend in Leith so if I'm up to see her I will let you know! Was up in April for a party at the Cricket Club on Leith Links!

Annobel Thu 31-May-12 21:27:26

If only I had been coming through Edinburgh today instead of tomorrow! I'll be on my way to Dundee by train, past your homes, green and Gally. One day I'll get off and meet you.

greenmossgiel Thu 31-May-12 21:19:55

It was lovely to meet Elegran and Glass! We had a really nice lunch in an Italian restaurant on George Street. Gally and I have met up a few times now, and always have so much to talk about!
It would be so good to have a 'gathering' of those who would like to meet up. It wouldn't just have to be those who post regularly, but could also be those who only post sometimes and those who 'lurk' as well.
Nanaej, it would've been lovely to have had you with us today! smile

glassortwo Thu 31-May-12 21:05:40

elegran there could be a lot of grans grin

Elegran Thu 31-May-12 20:46:04

How about regional ones first, to get in a bit of practice? There could be thousands at a national reunion.

glassortwo Thu 31-May-12 20:41:28

Think we should have an Nationwide annual get together, all grans together, what do you all think?

glassortwo Thu 31-May-12 20:38:49

elegran took my shoes off and my feet were blue dye off my shoes grin

Elegran Thu 31-May-12 20:38:42

nanaej Thu 31-May-12 20:37:17

Jealous of your Edinburgh trip...I love London but Edinburgh is special too!

I had a productive day.. did a mountain of ironing and then sorted my wardrobe out..winter clothes put away in a case, dry cleaning sorted, charity bag full and..oh no! I needed a new pair of spring/summer shoes and, after lunch out with DH, was lucky enough to find a perfect pair in town!grin

Elegran Thu 31-May-12 20:36:19

Hope you managed to swim home OK Glass I am still wringing the water out of my trouser legs.

glassortwo Thu 31-May-12 20:21:26

artygran Wed 30-May-12 19:16:43

I agree Anagram. The best thing I've done today is sewed GS's 3rd "ducklings" badge on his swim shorts (DD not good at sewing!). He is five and a half and has been taking formal lessons since last year, but we have taken him to the local pool since he was six months old. There was an article in the Times yesterday about the number of children leaving primary school without being able to swim 25 metres. So far, at his school, there have been no swimming lessons included in the curriculum. Maybe they will come later.
