Help! I'm trying to make my mind up. Do I go on the Victoria to the canaries, or Elizabeth in the med?
The vic is 16 days and will be warmer than the med! The QE is 18 days, wont be as warm and is obviously more expensive. I aim to go grill class, both go from Southampton and I can't decide[confused. Any (sensible) ideas?

I love the Canaries,16 days in the warmth, less expensive, same class on both, same point of embarking...its gotta be the Canaries, have been on a cruise around the canaries and it was fantasticxxx

Yes so have I.twice! But I have been to wall the other places as well! Don't want to fly so other venues are out!

jeni Sun 13-May-12 19:41:24

That should be all the other

nelliedeane Sun 13-May-12 19:53:32

Have you been on the Q.E before jeni?

Greatnan Sun 13-May-12 20:00:43

jeni, I always picture you in an old-fashioned deck chair wearing a big picture hat and being fussed over by all the crew. I think I have been watching too much Poirot!
Have you ever been on a river cruise (not the Nile, that is always fatal)?smile
I am fancying a short Rhine or Danube cruise before I emigrate.

jeni Sun 13-May-12 20:18:27

Yes vic and QE going on QM on 5 day jubilee cruise in 5june! Not grill though!

nelliedeane Sun 13-May-12 20:28:34

I can see your dilemma..

jeni Sun 13-May-12 20:33:11

No, I love the sea! Rivers are tame. Might consider a canal cruise in France for the cuisine though!( don't tell glass)
I do lounge and the crew are great! I bont have the picture hat though. I will cover my head and arms in Muslim areas however!

Greatnan Sun 13-May-12 20:45:06

I went on the Canal du Midi from Narbonne to Beaucaire, but that was in a cabin cruiser, so nobody waiting on me!
I still fancy joining a flotilla around the Greek islands but it is very expensive because of the single supplement.

jeni Sun 13-May-12 20:47:00

Always sailed our own boat. Have seen some dreadful things on flotillas. No way!

greatnan I have done two river cruises..trying to build up DH to a longer sea cruise as he is not very keen on boats as he does not swim!! We had a good time on the Rhine and the Rhone..went with the Treyn Co! Good thing about river cruises there is always something to see.. on sea voyages there is sometimes just the horizon!

Jeni seems like it is a toss the coin choice for you! Will there be anything special going on in any of the ports of call that you would want to see? Maybe that would tip the balance?

Greatnan Sun 13-May-12 21:06:43

I fancy a river cruise as a way of seeing as much of Europe as I can without having to drive. I don't mind driving long distances but a change would be good. The Rhone Valley to the east of Lake Geneva is beautiful - juragran and I had a little mini holiday there.

Fireworks on new years eve in Madeira, weren't nearly as good last year as the one before! The credit crunch biting I suppose!

Very very jealous now.
No balmy weather, no lovely frocks, no six course meals ( although the food will be good I'm sure )
All being well I will be on this ship next week. Bought the trip for husband for X-mas.
What ever made me do that??
She is sailing from the West Coast, mostly the Irish sea I suppose. The sea sick pills are packed already!
Please think of me.

Jeni what is grill class? My imagination went inot over-drive!! grin

jeni Sun 13-May-12 21:30:58

The grill classes are the two best class's on board. I travel princess, queen is better but out of my price range. Google Cunard, go to accommodation look for princess grill!

Greatnan Sun 13-May-12 21:40:59

You are Queen of Gransnet, jeni!

Never been on a cruise, and hubby won`t go abroad anymore, but we are considering a cruise around the Highlands and Islands of Scotland for next year. Has anyone done this, if so, is it to be recommended?

harrigran Sun 13-May-12 22:49:35

Don't ask me, DH designed and built ships and would not set foot on a cruise liner.

Barrow Mon 14-May-12 14:41:40

Harrigran - a friend used to build aeroplanes and would never fly - do they know something we dont!!

Notsogrand Mon 14-May-12 16:22:15

Let me know the date you're setting off jeni.... I'll wave you off from the prom at Hythe. It's just down the road from me and looks across the water to Southampton docks. We always know when the liners are setting off by the ship's hooters....usually 5pm on the dot!
