Right, who knew that atherosclerotic lesions have been observed to occur naturally in baboons? Also in wild sea lions and seals, pigs, cat and dogs, sheep, cattle and horses, reptiles and rats.

Well, well!

"twistle" in English placenames means a boundary stream. It's from an Old English word meaning a fork or junction.

Anagram Sun 13-May-12 16:18:23

You've been researching those Lancashire/Yorkshire names, haven't you, Bags?!

Bags Sun 13-May-12 16:19:10

Only looked up twistle. Any more requests?

Anagram Sun 13-May-12 16:20:27

Thwaite means a piece of land cleared from forest or reclaimed from wasteland....

nanaej Sun 13-May-12 16:47:29

Hmm! Had an elocution teacher called Miss Thistlethwaite. Took the first few lessons to say her name properly grin

Anagram Sun 13-May-12 16:50:40

Oh, what a wonderfully apt ice-breaker, though, nanaej! grin

Brownie points were bad things to collect.

In the Middle Ages, they thought leprosy was a venereal disease.

Myxamotosis was a venereal disease (for rabbits); that's why it killed so many.

The ship in "don't spoil the ship for a ha'aporth of tar" was a sheep, not a floaty thing on the sea.

The Skip in Skipton is a sheep as well, or several. But the skip in the Vikingskiphuset in Oslo is a ship, or several.

Bags Sun 13-May-12 17:43:31

Definitely several ships because it should be Vikingskipshuset.
