Do you think at 55 it is too old to go to a graduation ceremony? I have just got my BA Hons after 8 years studying part time, but feel a bit long in the tooth for the cap and gown bit....what do you gransnetters think?

Congratulations Yummy. As others have said, you've done all the hard work, you deserve the rewards, whatever your age. What a great role model for your GC too flowers

Congratulations, Yummy. I endorse what everyone else says. Of course you aren't too old. Nobody is too old to reap the rewards of their hard work. Take your family to cheer you on. They should be very proud of you. wine Cheers!

I just agree with everyone else. I don't think I'm too old for anything, just reached the age when I feel I can do what I like when I like!

lucid Tue 01-May-12 12:39:23

Age is just a number....you've worked hard and you deserve to go. flowers

I didn't go to my degree ceremonies in my 20s because I thought I was taking some kind of stand, not sure against what? About 5 years ago I did a course of training through work which led to a degree and I decided to go to this ceremony and make up for the ones I had missed. I had a fabulous day and there were lots of older graduates. I agree wholeheartedly with all the other comments; don't hesitate, go and enjoy it. You will have an unforgettable day! smile

Greatnan Tue 01-May-12 13:41:46

I agree with everyone who has said you must go - you probably deserve your degree more than some of the 'youngsters'!

Yummygran Tue 01-May-12 13:52:24

Ahh, thank you all for your good wishes......I will go, I'm quite excited......smile

Annobel Tue 01-May-12 14:10:48

For goodness sake just go! - you have deserved it. Well done!
My Mum got her degree when she was 60 and I have the pic of her in cap and gown - she was very proud of it and rightly so.

MrsJamJam Tue 01-May-12 18:23:28

I did my degree through the OU and still feel that is one of my proudest achievements.

Have a wonderful time at your degree ceremony and celebrate your wonderful achievement. Age is immaterial! flowers

Yummygran why not go along and enjoy the day? I got my BSc (Hons) with the OU and was so busy with work and my four children that I just dismissed the ceremony as an inconvenience I could do without. I have four lovely pictures of each of my children at their graduations, and so enjoyed their special days - it would have been quite nice to have my picture up there with them!

petallus Tue 01-May-12 18:51:48

I went to a graduation ceremony when I was 48 and again when I was 50. I'd go no matter how old I was.
