................after a fairly dry morning, suddenly decided you really needed something nice for your lunch, and got your bike out, only to find when approximately three yards down the road the wind got up and the heavens opened with a really cold, driving rain, would you:

a. Press on regardless, with thoughts of M&S old fashioned white crusty bread, on-the-vine Rosa tomatos, and iced chelsea buns, as encouragement.

or

b. Turn back and make do with Hovis wholemeal sliced and Waitrose half-fat cheese.

Good mac, no gloves, stupid footwear. (hmm)

You can guess which I did. And halfway along the river towpath I just wanted to get off the bike, stand very still, and HOWL!!! It was sooo cold and sooo wet!

It was the right decision in the end though.smile Lunch was very nice. smile

It was a very quick trip. I decided I couldn't take the drownded rat look round House of Fraser or John Lewis. hmm

imjingl Sat 28-Apr-12 14:17:21

Is there such a word as drownded? hmm

imjingl Sat 28-Apr-12 14:17:42

I meant confused there.

imjingl Sat 28-Apr-12 14:18:22

Oh God, I'm having a thread on my own again. 4 posts already and only me. hmm

greenmossgiel Sat 28-Apr-12 14:22:23

I would have pressed on, jingle! House of Fraser or not! And even if there isn't such a word as 'drownded' it does make it sound even wetter..and messier....grin

soop Sat 28-Apr-12 14:25:10

imjingl You did the right thing. Our nearest M&S is a mere 100 miles...and I only have a second hand exercise bike that remains static no matter how hard I peddle grin

soop Sat 28-Apr-12 14:27:48

Did you say iced buns? Any spare? Are they the Chelsea bun variety? envy

imjingl Sat 28-Apr-12 14:32:44

Yes. and NO!!!

Evil grin

imjingl Sat 28-Apr-12 14:33:31

It does, doesn't it Green! grin

soop Sat 28-Apr-12 14:34:50

A nice lady sold me the bike for a £10 donation to a dogs home. It comes with all mod-cons wink The manual is rather intimidating - far too wordy for my liking. If I can tear myself away from this forum sometime, I may read the blurb, grasp the fundamentals, and build up some much needed muscle power.

soop Sat 28-Apr-12 14:36:18

...but not today grin

gangy5 Sat 28-Apr-12 16:13:00

Can't bear to even stick my nose outside today - had to brave it though beacuse I needed some chives from the garden. 10C in the south of England and we're nearly into May. Doesn't seem to be any sign of it warming up.

Zephrine Sat 28-Apr-12 16:26:41

It's actually not raining here today and I have got three loads of washing dry!

Hankipanki Sat 28-Apr-12 16:28:05

I would have continued too once your drownded you can't get any wetter.

harrigran Sat 28-Apr-12 19:41:02

jingl I bet your lunch was so much tastier for having put yourself through an obstacle race to get it.

Oldgreymare Sat 28-Apr-12 23:37:16

Such a brave girl Jingle! I'm totally fed up with this cold wet weather. Huddled up in winter woollies, the wind blowing a hoolie(sp?) rain lashing against the window. Thank goodness for your antics, catching up and smiling at lots of lovely posts on GN.

glassortwo Sat 28-Apr-12 23:48:51

[smug emoticon] we have had sunshine all day.......... hope you have dried out jingle

Faye Sun 29-Apr-12 00:55:28

This week the weather here has been beautiful, not too hot and not at all cold, lots of sunshine, no clouds, beautiful blue sky, gorgeous autumn days. Today is expected to be sunny and around 18C by Tuesday back up to 23C and then on Wednesday 19C and rain. Winter is on its way. I will send you some sunshine while I can but it is sadly running out. sad sunshine sunshine sunshine

jingle I would brave the weather for some nice home made bread, home grown tomatoes, olives, avocado, some roasted vegetables and a freddo frog confused (did I say a freddo frog, I have given them up).

Maniac Sun 29-Apr-12 10:52:36

jingle you'd definitely get 'drownded' today.
It's blowing a gale and bucketing down.
So I would turn back and raid my store cupboard.
Here's a good stand-by recipe.-an old family favourite.

Tuna /sweetcorn/mushroom pie

Tin of (Tuna
(Sweetcorn
(Campbell's condensed Mushroom soup.
Pkt of frozen Short cut pastry

Roll pastry to 12" square
Mix 3 tinned contents and pile into centre of square.
Bring points to centre and pinch edges together.
Bake in fairly hot oven (210 deg Fan ).

Good hot or cold with salad

I think I might just make one today

imjingl Sun 29-Apr-12 11:45:53

harrigran, you're right. I felt as though I'd 'earned' it! hmm grin

imjingl Sun 29-Apr-12 11:49:07

Maniac hmmmmm...... grin

(Not that struck on Tuna. Made too many sandwiches from it for dd2 years back! hmm)

Only like sweetcorn if I can chew it straight off of the cob with loads of butter. smile

imjingl Sun 29-Apr-12 11:50:23

Faye, Freddos for grandsons only in this house. liar liar, pants on fire

Anagram Sun 29-Apr-12 12:13:30

I love tuna, but why does sweetcorn seem to be an obligatory addition? Fine if you like it, but so many ready-bought tuna sandwiches (I know, should make my own!) and sandwich fillings contain it, and I'm not at all keen...confused

gangy5 Mon 30-Apr-12 09:07:17

Unexplainable!! Since the 50's tuna has been thrown together with sweetcorn. Maybe it's something to do with them both being tinned and in the cupboard!
