Just had a visit from a friend who lives locally. He has a severe mental illness, diagnosed 26 years ago and will be fifty in October. He doesn't have much in the way of treats in life and my husband and I would like to do something special for his birthday. He often finds it difficult to settle to any one thing for a long time. His parents are taking him out for a meal - any ideas Gransnetters?

Ooops - sorry, I've realised I should have posted this elsewhere really. Please ignore and I'll open a new thread. blush

Today went to a lunchtime housewarming 'drinkies' do; the first big social event as a singleton but I managed ok. Came home and spent the afternoon in the garden, cut the grass, weeded a large bed, planted some plants I bought last week and also a rose called Joie de Vivre which I put in a big blue pot with some of J's ashes which I can see from the kitchen. If I move in the future, the pot and J can come with me!smile

What a fine thing to do, Gally. And well done for managing the housewarming! smile

glassortwo Sun 22-Apr-12 17:55:05

gally flowers I love the colour and shape of that rose, and its a good idea having it in a pot in case you do move, you will be able to take them both with you. flowers

Grannyactivist Thank you. I've been kept busy this weekend by my SO and my favourite baby.He came to stay yesterday (but with a streaming cold!!) and she arrived this morning at 8.15am. (on a Sunday!!) for the day. My ds & dil were taking gs to play rugby.

Baby is teething and just wanted cuddles all day (bliss)smile. SO gave me lots of help even though he was really not well, but even so, I am shattered.
Otherwise, I would have been very upset and down, as this is the first Sunday for ten years, since mum died, that I haven't been to visit dad.

My dd has texted me twice. No phone call. I don't even know if she is coming to the funeral.

sad

nanachrissy Sun 22-Apr-12 20:23:05

Our Son Phil completed the London Marathon today. 4 hr 20 min. Slower than he hoped but given the 37,000 other runners in the way, a brilliant performance. We are so proud of him.

He has raised over £1300 for Cancer Research.

grin

yogagran Sun 22-Apr-12 21:33:35

That's amazing pompa you must be very proud of him. What an achievement, congratulations wine
