Good morning everyone.....sunshine

Welcome to Volume 4 of this popular thread.

SOOP Sat 14-Apr-12 16:59:30

Police van been parked at the bottom of our drive ALL afternoon. A second van parked on beach. Coppers discussing something of interest. We've had a visit...and, NO it had nothing whatsover to do with our antics in the hospital bedroom grin A suspicious canister has been washed up on the beach. Could be a bomb! shock Waiting for reinforscements to deal with whatever it turns out to be. If we're spotted whizzing over the Papa of Jura, don't blame the malt whisky wink As friends motor by, we wait 10 mins and then the phone rings...people on the bus must think that we're under house arrest.

bagitha Sat 14-Apr-12 17:21:18

I wonder if you'll ever find out what it is, soop? Hope it turns outnto be a "what larks!" rather than something dangerous.

SOOP Sat 14-Apr-12 17:29:29

bagitha J's been cosying up to police officer. They've shared 'a brew' and admired the scenery. Same officer now departed and another has taken over. All afternoon the local folk have been slowing down as they pass, and consequently, the telephone is red hot! grin

Butternut Sat 14-Apr-12 17:32:48

What do the bobbies think it is, Supersoop? Have they given you any hints - or are they waiting for a wee dram to loosen their tongues? grin

SOOP Sat 14-Apr-12 17:50:38

The bomb squad are coming from Faslane. Serious stuff...right opposite our house. Beach out of bounds. Where's the Ardbeg? We'll sit in the window and watch what happens.
I bought a silly wig for J to have fun with [he's bald]. When our friend saw the police presence, she phoned to ask if anyone had reported a sighting of a weirdo in the vacinity grin With friends like that....

SOOP Sat 14-Apr-12 17:58:14

J is about to pour the six o'clock malt whisky. At this point I must leave you. An update on the matter of the "suspicious object" will be posted tomorrow. Unless...confused hmm shock grin

gracesmum Sat 14-Apr-12 17:59:44

Maybe it's like Whisky Galore? Barrels of the water of life washed up on your shore?? (Wishing don't hurt!) grin

Gally Sat 14-Apr-12 18:10:56

Flew back home today after nearly 2 weeks in the deep south. The baby passed on his chest infection to me and I have been feeling really awful, hence the flight back home - I have left the car there to use when I return for the new baby in 2 weeks. Very strange coming back into the house all alone after my first long visit away. Lots of phone calls and messages to keep me strong - suppose I will get used to it eventually. I shall now sit and catch up on Gransnet gossip.

Butternut Sat 14-Apr-12 18:13:31

Hi gally - welcome back! sunshine Hope you'll be able to shake off the infection soon. Take care. x

glassortwo Sat 14-Apr-12 18:14:11

gally its good to have you back, I hope your chest infection clears up soon. Not long now for the new baby. smile

nanachrissy Sat 14-Apr-12 18:15:01

bagitha Sat 14-Apr-12 18:15:38

Hope it was a nice visit in spite of the infection, gally! Welcome back to GN. smile

Gally Sat 14-Apr-12 18:26:16

Thank you, thank you! It was good to see the family but I don't think I have ever felt so unwell in my life (apart from that time in India.....!) - reckon my resistance has taken a beating of late so time to recharge the batteries and make ready for the new baby - I shall start with a long soak in the bath accompanied by a glass or two or the 'hard' stuff (medicinal purposes only of course) grin

harrigran Sat 14-Apr-12 18:32:06

Welcome back Gally hope you feel better soon flowers

Jacey Sat 14-Apr-12 19:10:17

soop has reported a huge bang from the beach, loud enough to burst her knicker elastic! shock grin No doubt we'll get the full details tomorrow!

We wondered what all those military helicopters flying over this afternoon were about.

I've been AWOL for 11 days and returned to discover a new member of GN called SOOP. It took a good half hour for it to dawn that Super has metamorphosed into a Baxters look-alike confused

yogagran Sat 14-Apr-12 21:35:58

Welcome back Gally and I do hope that you very soon begin to feel better and stronger. Take care flowers

jeni Sat 14-Apr-12 21:44:02

Well! I made my barnbrak. It was partially successful. I forgot to grease the silicone bakeware I used so it hasn't turned out perfectly. It was not so dark as I remember it.
The recipe said soft brown sugar, I wonder if the original used treacle or molasses?
However it tastes fine, sliced and buttered.

( don't tell glass) I dread to think what it's calorific value isgrin

glassortwo Sat 14-Apr-12 22:25:21

What was that jeni wink

jeni Sat 14-Apr-12 22:40:49
