Help! tar on DGS's clothes!

Brighton beach in the forties and fifties was notorious for the lumps of tar stuck to the pebbles. Rubbing with fat was the solution, followed by a hot wash - in those days it was in the sink with a bar of soap and a scrubbing brush.

WD40? I think I have heard of this as a possible tar remover.

None of my children came to any harm from it. Just spray it on a clean cloth and rub gently until it loosens the tar. Obviously you would want to wash it afterwards. Anyway, it worked for us. Even used it to get tar off their feet. Clearly I was a dreadful mother

Even if it was washed afterwards?

Kitty Fly spray is full of insecticide ! I would prefer to take my chances with just plain messy.

That's the one I was trying to remember Nellie. Thank you for your suggestions. I'll try flyspray first, as it's less messy, and then the fats.

Eucalyptus oil used to do the trick.

My children used to get tar on their swimsuits at the beach. We used to get it off with fly spray, believe it or not! It works!

Other gats might work, but I know that does. DD2 new dress, pale yellow from granny, sat in tar at the park!!

Lard. Scrub hard. Then fairy soap.
