In fact, the poor Queen can't win. She put her duties before her Children and was criticised for that. Then when she tried to put her grandsons before the wishes of the public she was nearly run out of town

For those complaining I'm DISRESPECTFUL ,can I just say you are absolutely right.I have never felt any respect for any Royal .The whole system fills me with distaste .Quite why everyone is expected to be broken hearted over a very privileged old woman who hasn't ACTUALLY worked her whole life is ridiculous and she has been overpaid for doing it.If ALL old people had been treated with just a smidgeon of the care she has it would be a far better country.

Instead we hand hundreds of millions every year to her to keep her brood in the style THEY think they are entitled to!

As Volver said Independence for Scotland and the monarchy are two seperate issues and will be a question for US when we gain our Independence

I wish my own mother had lived as long as the Queen, she had a resemblance to her and it seems so long since my mother died at 78.
I do respect her for what appears, in the main, to be a very boring position, but a President could easily carry out these duties.
I believe the expense of running a royal family and their numerous castles and houses, security etc is far greater than we realise and unnecessary. The duchy estates need looking into as well…

No, I shall neither feel sad, nor miss her, but devoutly thankful that she has finally finished her course. I cannot find it in my heart to grieve for anyone of 95 or over who dies.

I missed my mother (born a day after the Queen) when she died at the age of 75 , but am very thankful indeed that I have not had to worry about her health for the last 20 years!

I wonder whether my contemporaries in the Royal Family might not have enjoyed their lives, and spent the last 20 years more productively, if their parents hadn't lived so extraordinarily long?

How bland our country would be if its history & events were swept away to appease those who find it offensive.

I've watched her through the years, and thought how hard it must have been to have to be always in the public eye, and never set a foot wrong in the eyes of the world. I truly think she is a marvel and you have all been truly blessed by having her as your queen. The grief of losing her husband has probably done more harm to her than Covid. She is irreplaceable, God bless her.

Mulberry your post reminds me of my friend's mum who was a dead ringer for the Queen when we were growing up, so much so, if she'd been around now she could have been one of those Lookie Likies and got paid for it. However, she was Irish through and through so probably couldn't have pulled the accent off. She was very aware of the resemblance and really liked the fact that so many people told her so. Friend always told me her mum would be glued to the telly whenever The Queen appeared just so she could make sure her general appearance was still mirroring her to an extent, hair and stuff that is, not the tiaras!

Like I said I'm not a monarchist. But I suspect she would have been far happier having children, looking after dogs etc in the country than having this role thrust upon her.

But she did the best she could, with dignity, discretion and grace.

I agree with you and I feel deeply uncomfortable to drive past people queuing to get food from food banks in my nearest town every day and also having to sit in meetings about my own vulnerable adult child whilst that family lives with such wealth paid for by minions

I don't care if that makes me have a chip on my shoulder the size of a Simnel cake or if I smell faintly of marzipan

What has the Queen done for us?

She has long reigned over us which is deemed to be laudable.
Perhaps someone can give me an other example of something she has done.
