Well I am an addict and proud of it! Love it all even the boring bits and now love Ambridge Extra.......I believe I am not alone either????

Penstemmon Wed 23-Apr-14 20:45:37

I would quite like to be a storyline writer for the Archers!

Nelliemoser Thu 24-Apr-14 08:54:00

I didn't really think it would be cancelled, but Tom has a point about being seen as John's replacement in the family.

A bit like the Shula Hebden Lloyd family's expectation that Daniel would be a solicitor like his Dad!

Mishap Thu 24-Apr-14 11:01:58

I a sure the wedding will go ahead. Perhaps we should be taking bets! - virtual of course!

Soutra Thu 24-Apr-14 14:44:06

Surely whatever "plotline" they are leading us along, the opposite will happen? Got to wait for 7.05 tonight though!!

Gally Thu 24-Apr-14 19:15:17

Oh no............ shock

Nelliemoser Thu 24-Apr-14 19:16:44

Oh S***!

Iam64 Thu 24-Apr-14 19:18:55

argh, missed it, late home…

Mishap Thu 24-Apr-14 19:19:37

Oops - how wrong can one be!? Glad I did not put money on it.

Seems a silly plot line to me - a bit like Nigel's fall. Over-dramatic and unnecessary. No groom would do that at the church, especially as he had talked to his gran the night before and been told to do it then. Just daft.

Anne58 Thu 24-Apr-14 19:22:33

Who will eat all the food now?

Mishap Thu 24-Apr-14 19:26:02

Joe Grundy

J52 Thu 24-Apr-14 19:34:04

DS1 just popped by for a chat. I missed it! Can I take it that the wedding is off? X

Iam64 Thu 24-Apr-14 20:03:38

Ah - so Tom backed out at the alter. This will have so many ramifications, won't it.

eGJ Thu 24-Apr-14 22:18:37

AND they aren't in the cast list next week!!!

Soutra Thu 24-Apr-14 23:00:23

Oh poor Kirsty!! It had all got more than a bit out of hand but what a stupid boy Tom is - things needn't have got to this stage! I agree there is no subtlety to their plots - they are either black or white, all or nothing.Mind you DD1's man at the time did do the dirty 3 weeks before their wedding leaving me with a MOB outfit to die for hanging in the wardrobe which I have not worn since at either DD1's or DD3's weddings as I think it might have been jinxed. But that was another story....................( and a lucky escape, in hindsight)

chloe1984 Fri 25-Apr-14 07:17:17

I loved it from the bridal procession in the hay cart to Joes rumbly tum also thought the wail echoing through the church was a master stroke. Poor Kirsty, poor Tom but its Pat I really feel sorry for how much more is she expected to take. Only clunky bit for me was the vintage tractor - would never have happened.

Penstemmon Fri 25-Apr-14 14:32:29

shock Haha! It is a bit far fetched..Tom suddenly deciding he doesn't know who he is anymore.... I liked Kirsty's fury though!

judidoo Fri 25-Apr-14 20:56:43

Mishap - I thought the same about plotline being similar to Nigel's demise.

I don't find much of it interesting/relaxing to listen to ever since that first disaster. They have obviously cut the budget as only a few actors actually appear. It used to move all over the village with lots of stories interweaving but now it's scope is really limited and these contrived situations are just too "way out".

I only listen with half my attention - if it happens to come on when I'm doing something else. The new writers have spoiled what was a good story.

Thumbs down from me.

Mishap Fri 25-Apr-14 21:59:56

Thumbs down indeed. The Archers used to be about everyday country life with its ups and downs, not an attempt to compete with the worst of TV spas.

annodomini Fri 25-Apr-14 22:20:23

It always used to be the case that only six actors would appear in each episode. I have given up listening though i used to be a devotee. I have fallen out of love with all soaps.

NanKate Sat 26-Apr-14 07:15:53

I was listening to a synopsis of the last couple of episodes which I had missed and they mentioned someone dying (well I think that is what they said) so I listened on Iplayer to poor Kirsty being dumped and then the aftermath of the recriminations, but all the characters are still living and breathing.

Did I misunderstand what the reviewer said or perhaps something nasty is looming ahead?

judidoo Sat 26-Apr-14 11:16:40

Anno - I didn't notice the no. of actors in one episode - historically- but I do now, and they are much more limited in total number. Most of the peripheral characters don,t live and breathe for me because they never appear.

Kirsty being dumped was well acted but that doesn't make up for the lack of variety for me. And the way Tom did it and then wanted to "explain" afterwards made him out to be a total moron I think.

Still say theyv'e lost the magic touch!

Lilygran Sun 27-Apr-14 14:01:59

Only just caught up with this through the omnibus today. I hope Kirsty will now turn into a manic harpy intent on bloody revenge! Just as much in character as Tom's identity crisis. Now Kenton will go into a monastery and Jill will call a family meeting to tell them all exactly what she thinks of them.

Mishap Sun 27-Apr-14 16:48:36

Exactly - totally out of character, and unrealistic. A bit irritating really!

FlicketyB Sun 27-Apr-14 17:53:41

I stopped listening to the Archers on the 60th anniversary and haven't listened since, even though I probably heard most of the first sixty years.

I stopped, not because they killed Nigel Pargiter, but because we had a month of hinting trails on R4 that something really dramatic and different was going to happen. When the day came it was total bathos, just another character killed (they still hadn't fully played out the plot following Sid's death) and we were expected to believe that Pat and Helen knew nothing about pre-eclampsia. I turned off and I haven't listened since.

I do however occasionally dip into this thread and nothing I read here engenders any interest into ever listening again, on the contrary, it confirms that, on the 60th anniversary, I made the right decision.

NfkDumpling Mon 28-Apr-14 12:03:57

I thought Tom acted completely out of character. It was left too late. He would have done as his gran said and talked it through beforehand. I know men of his age can flip sometimes though so perhaps it's leading into some sort of mental health angle?
