Well I am an addict and proud of it! Love it all even the boring bits and now love Ambridge Extra.......I believe I am not alone either????

Some months ago there was a whole Radio 4 Extra story about Kate, when Phoebe visited her in S.A. She was having an affair with a college tutor I think.

yes he did phoenix, I seem to remember some kind of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. I know the new medications are good (because I take them), but not sure they would enable a young man to join the army. Off to google!

I think the writers, producers and the rest of the crew have finally admitted they can't cope with rural so they are diversifying into an urban soap. I've felt for a long time that many of the issues in the plots were actually city problems levered in to a village.

papaoscar Tue 21-Oct-14 11:32:26

Now that's a very good point, Lillygran. I suppose that in the old days the countryside was very much more heavily populated with all the appropriate infrastructures and potential for story lines. Now that farming is much, much less labour intensive and living in the country very much for the rich, whether farmers or ex-townies, there is just not the same scope for the story writers. Does this portend the end of the Archers as we know it or the start of a change to a modified version set in town or city? I hope not and don't we have enough of those sort of soaps already? Its all very disturbing!

Didn't Emmerdale Farm evolve into Emmerdale for the same reasons?

Haven't watched it since Annie Sugden went to Spain.

papaoscar Tue 21-Oct-14 15:27:09

Didn't they once try a soap based in Spain, and wasn't it called Eldorado? I remember we quite enjoyed but it ran out of steam a long time ago. Hope that doesn't happen to the Archers. Perhaps they could all be transported back to the 50s, Doctor Who style, with flashbacks forward to our time. That would keep us all guessing. Maybe the old Crossroads Hotel is still available for a relaunch under Archers/Ambridge mananagement?

Unbelievable episode tonight. I might just have to stop listening.

Caught a fleeting report last night that route B has been chosen to go right through the middle of Brookfield. That'll liven-up things up for the green wellies, flat cap and wax jacket brigade!

merlotgran Sat 01-Nov-14 16:26:13

So, what price Brookfield now?

Soutra Sat 01-Nov-14 17:17:13

New characters to be Bob the builder, Robbie the roadroller and a supporting cast of Boys from the Blackstuff?

papaoscar Sun 02-Nov-14 10:24:18

Hot news! Archers cast to receive secret voice coaching in Geordie in preparation for massive relocation up north. Ambridge to be transformed into out-of-town theme park. Archers signature tune to be changed to the Bladon Races. Its all happening!

Teetime Sun 02-Nov-14 12:14:39

Well todays episode might well upset a lot of people- séances and Ouija boards and the road is coming through!!!!

sparkygran Sun 02-Nov-14 13:36:13

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 02-Nov-14 13:37:55

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 02-Nov-14 13:39:05

Too many posh voices in the Archers these days.

Teetime Sun 02-Nov-14 14:07:16

oo arrr!!

feetlebaum Sun 02-Nov-14 14:25:50

@jing -- yes - it's "Ouija". Classic game using ideomotor response to move a planchette to indicate letters and pretend it's magic from 'beyond'.
Oddly, nothing coherent 'comes through' if the operator is blindfolded...

Patented in 1891 in the US. Sold by games manufacturers.

merlotgran Sun 02-Nov-14 15:00:46

We used to make our own using scrabble letters and an upturned wine glass. Plenty of wine was also consumed.

Blindfolding the operator never occurred to us......Interesting.

Will Ian go on holiday alone and leave Adam in Charlie's clutches? Can't wait. Will Fallon and Harrison ever get together? Will Kenton demand his share of Brookfield and scupper the moving plans. It's all too exciting.

Mishap Sun 02-Nov-14 22:07:22

I've never understood how David et al could possibly move as they would not be able to afford a farm once they have shared out the spoils from he sale of Brookfield with their siblings.

There must be a whole gang of actors desperate to leave.

Nelliemoser Sun 02-Nov-14 22:34:26

I cannot really see it happening but you never know. It sounds a totally stupid idea to shoot off up north and leave all your friends and contacts behind.
Has Jill agreed to go? What ever happens one grandmother or other will be inconvenienced and separated from all their friends and family.

lilygran Prudhoe might be up north but I don't think your call it urban. wink

I will stick with Papaoscar's scenarios.

Nelliemoser Sun 02-Nov-14 22:42:31

I wonder what the hypothetical legal situation is with regard to who in the family can get bits of Brookfield in the the event of it being sold off. They were talking about it. I missed a few episodes recently.

I hope the script writers have got their legal advisors working on resolving that one. I am sure that possibility was never in the original story line a bankruptcy maybe.

merlotgran Sun 02-Nov-14 23:09:59

When the farm that DH managed was sold it took months to sort out the wrangling with the four family members who had a share. If I remember correctly, just one sibling can bring the whole thing to a halt if they don't agree with their share and the farm has to be taken off the market.

I wonder if the SWs have taken into consideration that the Brookfield will now be devalued because of route B so David and Ruth would be better off taking the compensation and getting out of dairy farming.

I still think Heather will snuff it.
