Has anyone watched this?

It was fascinating to watch the celebrities and their differing views on faith and religion and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

Yes - we both enjoyed it. I know someone who did the pilgrimage.

I confess to having warmed to the non-religious members of the group who had the refreshing quality of not taking themselves too seriously.

And to having been irritated when one woman told the man who had been in prison that his emphasis on hope (which had got him through) was actually to do with god - how dare she take it on herself to interpret his experience - it is his and I was impressed by how he had moved on with the minimum of bitterness for his wrong conviction.

Scenery's great! smile

I think he is one of the most fascinating characters so far Lucky.

The scenery is wonderful. I find Neil Morrisey's constant whingeing annoying but then as DH observed, they were probably picked so there would be a stalwart, a moaner, a fit oldie (Debbie) a surprise improver etc., etc.

It's going to be interesting.

I read a book about this pilgrimagae a few years ago, which was very entertaining so I watched the first episode of this.
It’s ok but the book was far better and more informative.
What is amazing is how many people do this pilgrimage ( a few do it without shoes!) also where they come from to do it, the US and China etc.
This may get better in the next episode, I was impressed by
Debbie McGee, and totally unimpressed ( aghast really!) at the vicar.

I was amazed that the female vicar thought they would not actually have to do the walk properly and that their luggage would be ferried on a van rather than carried on their backs!

And yes, I agree that there was a certain "set-up" to the choice of participants.

Debbie's genuine and dignified grief over her loss was impressive - put the lie to the snide "Mrs Merton" question on her show "So what made you marry the multi-millionaire Paul Daniels?"

I really enjoyed the programme, love the scenery and the history. Spain is often shown through the prism of the Costas, and some of Spain's lesser known places come across as unspoiled gems. Looking forward to tuning in again on Friday. I'm probably alone in this, but I find the female vicar quite annoying, I also thought she was given a lot of air time compared to some of the others. Found her irritating on Goggle Box a while back.

TerriBull Mon 19-Mar-18 14:12:05

Oh Lemongrove just seen your post, glad I'm not alone grin

lemongrove Mon 19-Mar-18 14:14:06

grin

It sounds as though the vicar got the thumbs down from several of us!

merlotgran Mon 19-Mar-18 14:15:53

The Goggleboxers who have left to find TV fame are in danger of coming unstuck due to over-exposure. Scarlett Moffatt is definitely a case in point and Rev Kate Bottley is too full of herself.

Steph and Dom seem to be surviving but they're clever at making sure they're the manipulators and not the other way round.

DanniRae Mon 19-Mar-18 15:25:27

I really enjoyed it too. Looking forward to the next episode.

I didn't expect to enjoy it but was pleasantly surprised. I am looking forward to the next episode.

I've always wanted to walk the Camino, ever since I saw another programme about it many years [that girl that said at Live Aid that she was going to walk around the world]. Didn't want to enjoy the programme but watched it yesterday and loved it. Hasten to add that I'm not at all religious but thought that, if the Heavenly Gates do exist, when I get there and they question the fact that I don't go to church I can say 'but I've been on a pilgrimage'....#hedgeingmybets

Another one here finding Reverend Kate the least likeable. I'm not remotely faithful but often catch the Good Morning Sunday programme on the radio and I believe she's recently taken over -give me Clare Balding anyday.Genuinely you interested in other people, whereas the Rev seems to like the sound of her own voice, and oppinions, too much.
On the other hand the more I see of Debbie Mcgee the more I admire her.And this was filmed before her gutsy performance on Strictly.Enjoying it though, and will be interested to see how things proceed.

I watched and enjoyed this programme.

Unfortunately, whilst searching online for Dee McGee's age blush, I came across a video of her taken that very day, effing and blinding and some poor fan who had asked her for a photograph! Celebridees forget sometimes that everyone is a potential photographer/recorder these days, and up goes on t'innernet, innit.

kittylester Mon 19-Mar-18 16:00:54

Kate Botley is some what diluted on Sunday mornings by the lovely Jason Mohammed.

Morgana Mon 19-Mar-18 16:03:55

yes, loved it too, but was surprised that there was hardly any mention of the amazing scenery. Perhaps they just didn't record that bit. Think the annoying vicar is there, as it is supposed to be a pilgrimage and they are obviously keen to cover the spiritual aspects.

ginny Mon 19-Mar-18 16:08:30

Granny knit, I think the clip you came across was a spoof filmed for the One Show

ginny Mon 19-Mar-18 16:09:00

Granny knot !!!!!

Grannyknot Mon 19-Mar-18 16:16:49

Oh, no! I fell for fake news! I am suitably chastened.

ginny Mon 19-Mar-18 16:30:53

?

Tegan2 Mon 19-Mar-18 16:36:03

I think they've been lucky with the weather; I thought it rained a lot there?

Tegan2 Mon 19-Mar-18 16:37:35

Can I recommend Tim Moore's 'Spanish Steps' in which he walks the Camino with a donkey...[think it's due for a re read..]

merlotgran Mon 19-Mar-18 16:42:54

I prefer Richard Coles as a TV celebrity vicar. He has a lovely self-deprecating sense of humour.
