Has anyone watched this?

It was fascinating to watch the celebrities and their differing views on faith and religion and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

I've just watched The Way with Martin Sheen which was on not long after this celebrity programme finished. Thanks for the recommendations, I agree with others here, it's a really good film.

I still struggled with the vicar - TBH I just found her irritatingly arrogant. "You are being guided - you just don't know it" How dare she say that to a man who was wrongly imprisoned for 20 years and rose above it to continue his life without being embittered. I salute him and his courage.

Maw - emotional indeed. x

Tegan, if you want to watch the Martin Sheen film, The Way, it is on BBC2 tonight at 11.25.
Just found out, after watching the last part of The Santiago pilgrimage programme. So we are recording it.

Only watched this final episode and Kate hasn’t bothered me. Perhaps she has mellowed?
But it has been very emotional as Paw always wanted to go to Santiago, maybe even thought we might do the Camino when we were younger, but babies etc got in the way.
St James’s Day is our wedding anniversary so a “special” saint for us.
Yep, as I thought, more tears. He would have so enjoyed it.

It's not her views that irritate me - no it's her personally. I'd hate to be landed with her as a walking companion for days on end.

I'd never heard of her, but now realise she's making a career in the media, been on goggle box (not seen that either).

Greenfinch Thu 29-Mar-18 15:43:24

I have only watched one episode but must say I found her contributions somewhat superficial

LadyGracie Thu 29-Mar-18 15:41:22

I just wish the vicar would use a mirror when putting her lipstick on and then keep her mouth shut. She is spoiling it for me as well.

Anniebach Thu 29-Mar-18 15:24:33

I don't hear the vicar wanting others to share her views, she expresses her own as do they all , just she is the only committed Christian so I think in a country which is no longer Christian her views perhaps irritate some , to be fair to her she doesn't give sermons or tell the atheists they are wrong, just as the atheists don't tell her she is wrong,

Luckygirl Thu 29-Mar-18 14:48:44

It is interesting to find that there are a number of us who feel the same - it is hard to define why.

In some ways I have found the contributions of the non-religious folk on this pilgrimage more thoughtful and thought-provoking. They have no script, and seem less forceful in wanting others to share their views.

Anniebach Thu 29-Mar-18 13:15:43

I find her voice irritating , makes it more difficult to concentrate on what she is saying

seacliff Thu 29-Mar-18 12:40:06

I don't often take a instant dislike to people ... but I did to the vicar. Luckily I had recorded it, so ended up just fast forwarding through her lectures. Good to know it wasn't just me.

Luckygirl Mon 26-Mar-18 21:49:53

She is not controversial - she is just a pain in the butt!

Overthehills Mon 26-Mar-18 21:31:10

Controversial is one word for the female vicar lemongrove but it’s not quite the one I would use! angry

lemongrove Mon 26-Mar-18 21:06:26

I expect the producers of the programme wanted somebody who would be controversial, hence the vicar.

tessagee Mon 26-Mar-18 20:06:29

Jane10 I agree with all your comments especially with regard to the female vicar. I am sure there are very many more vicars who would have been far better suited to making this pilgrimage. What a pity they didn't get the chance to take part.

Jane10 Sun 25-Mar-18 20:00:27

Just caught up with this. I was interested as SiL did it a couple of years ago. He did it a a sort of lads outing. I wasn't really aware that it made any sort of spiritual impression on him though.
That vicar woman is a liability! It's only her opinions that count and she reframes what others say to make them fit her views. That lipstick of hers is ridiculous.
Ed Byrne and Neil Morissey come over well. And that poor soul in prison for 12 years for something he didn't do shock! Amazing how calm he is.

kittylester Sun 25-Mar-18 10:40:23

I'm still loving it and intend to rewatch it later on without DH chuntering through it! grin

Debbie McGee has impressed me as I didn't expect to like her. I'm not too keen on Heather Small or the vicar.

Ed Byrne has always made me laugh and I am really appreciating his take on life.

DanniRae Sun 25-Mar-18 10:28:46

Thank you for your reply Luckygirl - I appreciate it.

Fennel Sun 25-Mar-18 10:23:25

I think they're very sensible doing the pilgramage at this time of the year, when it's not too hot.
Someone on another forum I belong to did one of the french routes in the summer and had a lot of problems - sore feet, other health problems, poor accommodation, primitive toilet facilities etc.

Luckygirl Sun 25-Mar-18 10:08:25

DanniRae - I would count myself as a humanist and am currently doing a free online course via futurelearn about it - you might find that interesting.

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 08:38:17

The vicar spoils the programme for me.Seems to be one of the ‘right on’ trendy kind, the sort who claim they aren’t religious but are touchy feely and sentimental. Not the essential qualifications needed for the job at all.
The others really do seem to be on a journey though ( in all senses) and seem to be getting something out of the experience.

DanniRae Sun 25-Mar-18 08:29:45

I really enjoyed the second episode even with the vicar's constant moaning.
I was very interested in the discussions about the beliefs of "Humanists" - I never knew anything about them before and it gave me pause for thought.

Luckygirl Sat 24-Mar-18 17:13:50

Some of my best friends are vicars, but that blessed Kate woman gets right up my wick. And the editor has given her the lion's share of attention.

Otherwise an interesting second episode.

Anniebach Wed 21-Mar-18 08:48:32

I only watched it last night, I found it interesting . The vicar spoke on what was tangible and what was not, she didn't tell him his hope was God.

I am amazed Debbie can keep her make up fresh.

Tegan2 Tue 20-Mar-18 23:44:19

Thanks Auntieflo...
