If you are watching Missing what do you think of it . it's complicated isn't it? stories within stories and changing countries and changing years I m really having to keep on my toes to follow it I am enjoying it though One criticism is I wish the wife and girlfriend looked less alike I have to keep translate which is which it is getting better now I m more familiar with the story line but the first couple of episodes foxed me

I love it BlueBelle but the plot is very complicated. The only way I can follow the jumping backwards and forwards is to look for SAMs scar and the mothers hairstyle. At the end of the last episode I was truly baffled to see Alice (or Sophie as I'm still not convinced who is who) appear in the cafe in Switzerland . What did you make of that?
I also took note that the DNA test was only taken between the dead girl and the father. This could mean that he fathered both girls. I don't know. I expect all will be revealed in due course. confused

Maggiemaybe Fri 04-Nov-16 08:34:12

Yes, we were saying that the DNA test would surely have been taken to link the daughter and mother, not the father, so there must be some significance. But the two known missing girls were from different countries and not knowingly connected to each other before the abductions - perhaps the body was that of the third girl, fathered by the father (if you see what I mean).

It's so convoluted and unlikely that we were considering giving up on it last week. I thought the last episode was better though ( or perhaps I'm just getting used to the craziness grin).

Does anyone know why the wife asked the girlfriend why she had not had a family, as if she knew nothing about her pregnancy? Surely she'd have been aware of it at the time of?

Maggiemaybe Fri 04-Nov-16 08:34:49

Not sure where that last of came from!

gillybob Fri 04-Nov-16 08:40:16

The girlfriend lost the baby though didn't she? Did the wife ever see the pregnant girlfriend?

gillybob Fri 04-Nov-16 08:41:50

I don't think the dad has got dementia either. I think he is using it as a cover up for his involvement in the abduction.

gillybob Fri 04-Nov-16 08:42:11

.....and I think he was involved with the butchers wife.

Christinefrance Fri 04-Nov-16 08:43:29

I love it, took me a while to get used to all the time differences. I agree BlueBelle the wife and girlfriend are alike but that happens in real life often. It does make it difficult to keep track though.
Looking forward to the denouement, do hope it's not one of those endings which leave you up in the air.

Mumsy Fri 04-Nov-16 08:58:03

theres far too much jumping back and forth! it doesnt help when you miss the text on the screen saying where and when!

Maggiemaybe Fri 04-Nov-16 09:04:16

Yes, because I'm knitting while I watch it, DH is on red alert to call out any date or location change grin

The wife and girlfriend must have met when the girlfriend was investigating the case though, and she was heavily pregnant then? Wasn't the girlfriend the one that told the Walkers that (fake) Alice had been found? Maybe not though, a lot's happened since I thought/dreamt I saw that scene.

One thing. There were an awful lot of scan photos in that drawer for just one pregnancy.

gillybob Fri 04-Nov-16 09:05:58

I think some of those scan photos belonged to Alice/Sophie.

Enjoying this, if somewhat confused most of the time. We also wondered if there coild be a third or even fourth girl in the mix somewhere. DNA testing on just the father is plain daft, so has to be there for a reason. We're hooked.

Welshwife Fri 04-Nov-16 09:49:14

It could be that the mother's DNA was taken but if she was not the mother as the girl was dead maybe they just did not say. I think the one shown at the end is the real daughter and she has some reason for not wanting to go home.

Lillie Fri 04-Nov-16 09:58:19

Oh yes, it's amazing!

That had to be Sophie in Switzerland because she spoke French. Just as it was Sophie who flipped when Baptiste asked her those questions at her house. But I can't see how Sam would be her father as we have already been shown her parents in Paris?

I think the corpse in the shed was a dead body, maybe that of Alice, which had been planted by Sophie, but then the teeth were so old and rotten?

And what's with the black soldier and his father's secret? Oh, and the butcher's wife too?

I agree the two women look alike, but their acting skills are different enough to set them apart, especially lately.

Amazing cast, amazing scenery! I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for next week and that's nowhere near the final episode!

trisher Fri 04-Nov-16 10:00:52

Haven't seen this weeks yet but I am totally hooked. Love the characters and the acting is brilliant. The time shifts confused me at first but I think the changes in appearance are done very well.

BlueBelle Fri 04-Nov-16 10:14:43

I agree that as I m getting more used to the characters the two women are different but for the sake of folks that get a bit muddled I would have loved one to have been a redhead or blond to help me out in the early stages
I m well hooked now and as the series is going on it is getting easier (slightly)but I guess if it was easy we wouldn't be so hooked on it
Intrigued as to where the body came from did she lug a body back to the shed and where from ? how did she get to Switzerland ? So many questions. Will Baptise live to see the conclusion? And yes what's the black soldier Dad got to do with it all
Umm love it

merlotgran Fri 04-Nov-16 10:21:53

We nearly gave up on it. Glad we didn't now.

It needs Jonathan Creek (remember him?) to solve the body in the shed mystery grin

Lillie Fri 04-Nov-16 10:38:17

And that resprayed camper van? I've just remembered we saw it first in Germany when it was yellow, but recently there was a shot of it painted red in Switzerland - maybe in that Vaaren place where Sophie is now?

Lillie Fri 04-Nov-16 10:45:50

No, my mistake, she actually spoke to the waiter in English, not French, (although she understood everything he had said in French), and replied "I'm taken" when he asked her out. Taken by whom?

Grrr. this is so perplexing!

Tizliz Fri 04-Nov-16 10:52:25

That shot of the camper van was strange, never mentioned again. Sometimes I wish I hadn't deleted the first few episodes as I would like to watch them again. perhaps I can download them - will have to have a look tomorrow (I have a pile of ironing to do so can watch them then).

rosesarered Fri 04-Nov-16 10:55:20

It's well done, but yes, confusing at times, you must not be doing a crossword or knitting whilst watching!grin

POGS Fri 04-Nov-16 10:57:50

I'm hooked.

I think the peadophile connection and the introduction of the Iraq 9 year old girl is making things a bit clearer.

I think the 3 rd girl on the fun fair ride looks to possibly be of Arabic descent but how could they have got her into Germany? Am I going way off track? confused

I think the girl in Switzerland is Sophie Giroux, I think the girl in the shed was Alice who was already dead and held somewhere. Who unlocked the shed door to let Sophie out and put Alice's body in though?

Blimey it's intriguing but the Army connection in Iraq is now obviously getting a little clearer and whilst I thought Brigadier Stone was the one who held them captive, (Sophie/Alice made reference on the seat when she said to him "What you did/done."), I believe he was the facilitator for covering up something one of his soldiers did in Iraq , namely Reed.

I think the butchers wife was ex military police and she was involved in the cover up too and her husband , the butcher, is totally innocent.

Can't wait for the next one but it certainly has been a case of blink and you could miss a piece of the puzzle. Good stuff.

Nelliemoser Fri 04-Nov-16 10:58:21

BlueBelle I find those women look too alike as well.
It is convoluted. I don't quite see what those two men were doing in that warzone. Yes those young girl could be half sisters via their dad.
I feel there is something odd about that heavily pregnant MP woman.
I had not thought about the body being switched for a half sister how could one woman manage to shift a body? This is quite fascinating when I can keep up with it.

BlueBelle Fri 04-Nov-16 10:58:55

Tizliz if you have an iPad you can watch them all on there you don't need to download just watch them episode by episode sometimes it's easier to follow if you watch one after the other a week gives me time to forget half of it

henetha Fri 04-Nov-16 11:23:55

I was totally confused at first (quite a usual feeling for me!), but after I read that it is on two time levels I sorted it out in my head and now love it and am finding it compelling.
