Long hair in my seventies

I had shoulder length hair, but it looked rather thin and straggly, and always looked a mess really.

It’s now a jaw length bob, looks thicker and tidier, and I think, suits me a lot better and makes me look younger.

My straggly grey hair just looked ‘witchy’.

If you like it that's what matters most.
But I have a friend who let her hair grow during the pandemic.
She used to have a Judy Dench type haircut and she looked so much younger and attractive.

I've also now got long hair, since the lockdown. I can easily put it up, tie it back or just leave it down. It is grey and I was 70 a few months ago. It's easier than having to blow dry it and spend a fortune on hairdressers. Maybe it could be considered aging but I'm not trying to bring back my youth. Also I have frontal fibrosing alopecia so I am still losing quite a bit from around the hairline, which I can hide a bit with the fringe.

My hair hadn't been cut for over two years and was almost waist length,I liked it ,my OH loved it.I used heated rollers on it and it was great .
I decided to get it cut ,just a few inches and then when the colour needed doing another 3 inches off Its still longer than shoulder length with a few layers through it and I can curl it or straighten it and it looks good either way .
I'm lucky to have decent hair ,its fine but theres a lot of it ,I'm 68 ,dont cut it just becaue of your age if you like it long keep it long

If you like it then that’s all that matters. Mine went feral over lockdown and I just let it grow. Once I was able to get to the hairdressers again I had it cut to a chin length bob to get rid of all traces of previous colouring and I love it. A quick blow dry with a few dabs of Small Talk and it’s good to go.

I grew my hair in lockdown. It is long and grey. Wear it up either with a grabber thingy or a ponytail with a scrunchie. I like having long hair.

It's all in how it is styled. I know my older sister has grown hers out and I think it's a bit aging, but that's because she just pulls it back in a ponytail, and it's a bit too harsh.

I think anyone can have long hair, but maybe take a photo of yourself and have a good look to see if you need a better style, whether pulled back or loose. If you pull it back, do a looser pony or bun, leaving some wisps to frame your face, or pull part of it up and leave the rest loose.

My hair is below my shoulders and is now grey. I haven’t had short hair for many years. It wouldn’t suit me now - you need the right bone structure to carry it off.

There's a hairdresser that comes on to one of our daytime talk shows that shows how to do styles. One trick is to to your ponytail, then take the tail of comb and slide it along the top of your head and loosen the hair at the top. it gives a bit of lift, and softens the look. You can do a bit of back-combing before you do your pull-back.

I wish I could have long hair. When I was young I cut it so it was easier for swimming (which I loved). Since then, I have never been able to grow it much past chin length - it straggles.
A lot of the England rugby players find longer hair that can be put up easier to manage than shorter hair which flaps round their faces.

My preference is for short layered hair. I know that long hair would age me.

I like to have longer hair because there are so many ways of wearing it. It's been grey for a long time - long before I reached 70. Mostly I just clip one side back but I can wear it up or tied back (not too tightly!). It used to come well below my shoulders but I think it suits me better now if I have it round about shoulder length.

The last thing I want is a standard 'old lady' cut!

I’ve never suited short hair anyway so I didn’t need to think about it, but so many hairdressers want to cut older ladies hair short.

Long grey hair doesn’t have to look like Mary Beard’s. She just doesn’t bother to look after it - or any other visible part of herself. If mine looked like that I’d ask my husband to shoot me (he probably wouldn’t need asking).

Allsorts it sounds like you are happy with your hair so I’d keep it like that, or perhaps trim a bit off to make it a bit thicker.
My hair is the longest that it has ever been.
It was previously falling out due to a vitamin deficiency.
My hair isn’t fantastic - but I love it.

My friend is 71. She has long hair. It is grey, thick and shiny. She looks fabulous.
As someone who has alopecia totalis, I never understand women who have short hair. Obviously it's personal choice but in my case, oh to have long hair, or any hair really.

I also think this is a personal preference and don't really care what other people like about my hair.
Having a very sensitive scalp I have to be really careful with hair products and if mine was really short I would need to use volumising products and fixing sprays to keep it in place; these would also irritate my scalp. Consequently, I would need to wash my hair daily which I don't want to have to do.
If anyone has any suggestions on keeping very fine, thin, flyaway hair in a nice short style please share........in the meantime my hair will be kept long.

Telling someone their hair ages them is rude, insensitive and none of their business. They are probably jealous.

I've just decided to have mine all chopped off, it's about collar bone length. I had a friend to visit for the first time in six years, made a great effort with my appearance and look terrible in the in the photos. I looked a lot older than her with her modern bob. Now to find a hairdresser!

I grew my hair during lockdown.
I thought I looked good . Some people even complimented me.
But I have discovered that How I think I look and how I actually look are two different things and I have photos to prove it.
I've now made an appointment to have it cut shorter (not as short as before) with some layers and I'm toying wirh the idea of having a soft fringe again, which is brill for hiding lines
I'm fed up with having scruffy, bushy looking hair.
