In the pet suppliers today, in among the pigs' ears and the pigs' tails I came upon packets of "beef pizzles." So I asked the cashier what these were. She blushed and then gigglef and the penny dropped!!blush
Her canine pooch-ship was well chuffed so all I can say to creatures of a masculine persuasion is "Be afraid, be very afraid"!! grin

I had bought these some years ago and my dogs loved them but the pong was more than I could stand so never bought them again.

And if I remember correctly, Shakespeare used the expression ' you bull's pizzle' as an insult!

Lol! Yes, rosesarered . I have looked it up. Falstaff said it to Prince Henry in Henry IV part 1 , Act 2, scene 4. (amongst other insults!)

My daughter remembers clearly the day I found her examining one of these in our local pet shop; she was about 13 at the time and was horrified when I told her what it was she was handling. Funnily enough she only mentioned it a couple of days ago. grin
