I agree and don’t forget further back when bombs and letter bombs were going off as well.

I couldn't understand why there was no mention either GrannyGravy13. Maybe because my policeman son was involved I'll always remember my fear for his safety, as well as my total horror and dismay at such wicked acts.

janipat I think you are right, having people caught up in the events of that day keeps it in your memory.

My son worked in central London at the time and had driven through Tavistock Square less than an hour before the bomb went off. He phoned me at work from his office to let me know he was OK before the authorities shut the phone networks down.
I had not heard about the bombings until he called me so it came as a shock.
Several of his colleagues were stuck on trains due to the chaos caused but nobody knew if they were amongst the victims or not until they finally arrived at the office.

DH was on the tube in front of the one that was hit. He worked for London Underground and found out when he got to work. I got a message to say he was OK and would be late home.
This was before smartphones so I didn't know what had happened until I got home and turned on the TV.
7/7 will always be remembered here.

It was one of those days that you don't forget. Like Kennedy's assassination and 9/11, I remember exactly where I was when I heard of it.

I also remember being constantly on alert in London in the early 70's with bag searches everywhere. Then it was atrocities committed by the IRA.

That's why I am so very concerned that 'the troubles' could return because not enough attention has been given to the NI border issues in the brexit fiasco.

It's the Hyde Park bombings that stick in my mind. Service personnel and horses strewn over an area. That was also in July 1982 and happened a month before I flew to Oz-----which I nearly cancelled because I was scared at the time as well as deeply upset at the carnage.

So so cowardly, any bomb attack and so brave are the survivors who lost limbs and suffered psychiatric problems.

Obviously such heinous acts are not forgotten, certainly don’t need to be reminded by a TV programme. (Not keen on the use of several exclamation marks in the thread title, seems frivolous, juvenile to me. Certainly not suitable for such a serious subject).

I knew my DS2 was working in London though I wasn't sure of his route to the office. I tried repeatedly to get through but all the phone lines were jammed. It was a tense time before his partner rang to tell me he was unaffected, having gone in to work early for a meeting. It was just a month before his first child was due.

It seems people have no trouble remembering 9/11 but for some reason ignore the anniversary of the London bombings.

DD would have been caught up in this, but a quirk of fate had made her late that morning.
She phoned to let me know she was fine and I was confused because there was a news blackout at first.

Yes, I think the BBC in particular has become quite selective in the things - like atrocities - it chooses to mention. One wonders if the ptb at the Beeb might have an agenda/censorship plan.

Tbh I had forgotten when it happened ( the year) and I have also forgotten the year of 9/11, and many other awful bombings, but that doesn’t mean I ( or anyone else) have forgotten the actual events.

I thought I did here a reference toit on thenews on R4, or it may have been in one of the quiet thoughtful early morning programs. I was up at 6.30.

Fourteen years is not usually commemorated is it? The norm is 5 10, 15, etc. If we had commemorations each year we would be overwhelmed what with Hyde Park, Harrods, London Bridge, Westminster Bridge, Lockerbie, Manchester Arena, and so on.

We don't need any more conspiracy theories to ramp-up discontent and mistrust.

I was driving an ambulance with out-patients on board in central London, and drove over the Edgware rd as the first ambulances were pulling up, I had no clue what was happening as my radio went dead as did my work mobile I made my way to UCH hospital and dropped off my patients but it was chaos.
I think there was a service in London today but nothing on the news.

mcem I was talking about the fact that there has been no mention of it in the media. 9/11 is remembered every year in America, surely the London bombings should at least warrant a mention.

My son worked, still works, in central London, my lovely girl was a student at UCL and did her clinical training at UCH. They were both on their way into central London on that terrible day. The first I knew of it was when I received a text from my dear friend which said ‘Mine’s okay, how about yours?’ I only received that because we had an INSET day at school so I wasn’t teaching and I had my mobile out on the desk. I remember my horror and my awful anxiety until I was able to establish their safety.
It’s 11.15 now, and I’ve just heard it mentioned very briefly on Sky News.
I’m sure there are many people out there who are grieving again for their beloveds who died that date.
My God forgive the perpetrators because I certainly can’t.
