I’ve been reading about anti-reflux surgery (fundoplication) for people who have ongoing acid reflux or GERD, especially when medication and lifestyle changes don’t seem to control the symptoms.

From what I understand, it is usually done as keyhole surgery. The top of the stomach is wrapped around the lower part of the oesophagus to create a stronger valve and help prevent stomach acid from coming back up. If there is a hiatus hernia, this may be repaired during the same operation.
I’d really like to hear from anyone who has actually been through it:
How did you feel after the operation?
Did it improve your reflux and heartburn?
How long did recovery take?
Did you have any problems with swallowing, bloating or being unable to burp?
Were you able to reduce or stop your reflux medication?
Looking back, would you have the surgery again?
I know everyone's experience is different, and I’m not looking for medical advice, just genuine experiences from people who have had anti-reflux surgery.
What is our role as older people?
