What’s a health check? 🤔I’ve never had one ….

Maybe those sort of results are sent to a GP anyway? I know how you feel, though. I worry myself sick over test results. Perhaps you might need to go onto statins ( I worry about my cholesterol because my last test was ok because I exercised regularly at a gym but I no longer do that; they said the exercise balanced out the bad cholesterol). And fatty liver can be reversed.

Should read “just” rather than “not”.

An NHS check is if you don't have any underlying conditions and you're checked for heart health etc. Height weight and tests mentioned. Weight was fine and do lots it exercise

Should say I'm assuming it's fatty liver. Could of course be totally wrong

You could be wrong, or you could be right. The way I feel about these checks is that they pick up problems early when treatment is easier and less invasive.

I don't know much about fatty liver but if I had one I'd like to know so I can do something about it.

I have the app. One test result was there but the other 2 were not. I phoned the surgery and they told me about the results being forwarded for the Dr to look at and to expect a phone call

It'll either be good news or bad news. You can't know which and you can't have any influence over it either way. Worry about what you do know and leave the rest until later.

Why should it be fatty liver? probably just high cholesterol.

We recently had a yearly health check. We got called to see the gp and had a general chat about everything. We were told to drink less.

At least you’ve had the courage to get a health check so well done you.I’m putting off getting mine done which is really stupid.

It was difficult ti go. I just thought theres no escape. I'll find out later if I don't go. Take a deep breath and make an appointment. Good luck

Seeing results in a vacuum can be a two-edged sword if you have health anxiety.

Blood tests aren't straightforward. I have them often for various reasons, and they are rarely 100% perfect, as so many things can affect different metrics. It might be something you've eaten, or all sorts of things that throw one result out a bit. If you go back for a repeat test in a few weeks the odds are that that will have repaired but something else is out of kilter. A GP has the ability to read them in conjunction with other things that impact your health.

Re fatty liver - it's not a terrible diagnosis - many older people have it, and it can be reversed with a low-fat, los-sugar diet and exercise. If you have a tendency to overdo alcohol, then cut back on that, too. It's only if it is allowed to progress that you need to be worried - the liver is very forgiving.

I mistrust these tick box exercises by the NHS. A few years ago everyone I knew was taking statins. Now everyone is ‘pre diabetic’ which is a dubious diagnosis. If most of the population is over a certain level of anything then I’d call that normal.

I was, briefly, labelled 'pre diabetic' on the basis of one test, since then all my tests have been normal and I think the pre-diabetic label has now been removed.

But if a one off positive test is preceded by and followed up by negative tests, there really should be no labelling

I haven’t either. I thought you are supposed to get one when you reach 70 and at regular intervals after but I have never been called for one and I am 81, perhaps you have to request one. I said to DH the other day I have never had a cholesterol check apart from one they were offering at Sainsburys years ago, I must ask for one. I have had a pre op check before my lumpectomy five years ago and everything seemed to be normal. DH gets regular checks because he is Type 2 Diabetic.

If you're aged between 40 and 74 and have no pre existing conditions you get called for checks. Never had one before and wish I'd never gone and saved all this stress.

It is highly unlikely to be anything serious, or the GP would have been in touch with you the moment the results came in.

High blood pressure or high cholestrol is about the worse they are likely to say and most people over 50 have one or the other or both.
